Default How much candy should you buy?

I've never been a home owner before during Halloween and am a little lost as to how much candy I should buy. I know in the Maritimes some houses could get well over 200 kids, but people are telling me here that a lot of kids just go to the malls.

I live in Rocky Ridge and there appears to be kids everywhere. Anyone familiar with that area that could share some insight?

I don't know about Rocky Ridge, but in Woodbine there has been a significant drop in the volume of kids we get at our door in the last 5 or so years. It must have something to do with the aging demographic of the community. Last year we only had about 30-40 kids come to our door (gave 3 small chocolate bars to each kid).

Basically if you run out of candy early just turn off your outside lights so the kids know to skip your house, and if you end up with extra candy at the end of the night, you get to eat it for yourself. Win-Win!

2 years ago I had 100+ kids come by.
Last year there were around 20.

Total crap shoot.

This year weather should be great, so I would expect a lot, but with the flu worries I also think a lot of parents may cut trick-or-treating short.

In other words, no idea what will happen.

I only had 12 kids come to Varsity where i live. They are smart. Goto the new neighborhoods where the lots are a lot smaller.

The last kids that came i was giving out 6-8 chocolate bars.

I suspect H1N1 will greatly decrease the number of little monsters that go door to door this year. So I guess the answer would be defined by how much leftover candy you want to have for yourself to eat. Be sure to buy what you like therefore ... I'm thinking mini Mars bars and mini bags of Cheezies.

Even better, just stick a big sign on your door that says "We have H1N1" and keep all the treats for yourself.

Thinking about doing this to avoid having to buy treats at all.
