Default Habs trade Getzlaf

The Montreal Canadiens sure were not expecting to trade Getzlaf this year but he has struggled quite significantly lately and his Morale was really low. So we traded for our favourite current player in the NHL, Jonathan Toews. Here is the deal:

To the Sharks

Ryan Getzlaf (73)
$4.15mm this year
$2.10mm next year

To the Habs

Jonathan Toews (72)

We save $2.10mm in cap space which will be valuable next year as we have a lot of big re-signings to take place.

This was a really difficulty trade to make but we needed a) some more scorin from someone other than Nash and b) Getzlaf wasn't playing great.

Thanks Ian for the talks, and welcome to the Habs Toews!

This deal doesn't really make sense for either team unless its just for a shake up - which both teams seem to be doing fine.

1) Montreal is on a tear - hopefully this move does not mess up any chemistry
2) Sharks get older (not by much) AND pay more - doesn't make too much sense

Good lateral move I suppose.

I knew this was for Toews before I opened it. I'd have to say pretty fair deal. Getzlaf is rated better now, Montreal gets Toews and his nice contract but he did have to send cap next year. I think this works for both teams as Curtis gets the guy he loves and Ian gets a young stud in Getzlaf.

Not very often you see the 2 highest rated players in the cphl swapped for each other (get with the new ratings Curtis!!)

Should add, like Pat mentioned, will be interesting to see if this has any effect on the Habs 9 game win streak.

The chemistry thing I'm not too concerned about too much; Getzlaf has been a minus the last four games, pointless, and has racked up a bunch of PIM's. We'll see I guess.

I wanted Getzlaf on my team and that was that. Toews is great but Getz is better IMO. I am pretty happy with the deal

Personally, I am a bigger fan of Getzlaf then Toews so I like the deal for San Jose. With that said, both are great players and with salary structure, etc I can see why Montreal made the move.

NHL Getzlaf > NHL Towes...

Then again NHL Ovechkin > everyone else in the world... 3 points in 7 games. Thumbs down.
