Icon56 Thrashers October free agent signings proving to be a success

Heading into October and signing free agent players isn't much of a risk. For Atlanta it's proved to be low risk and high reward to this point. Atlanta signed 3 free agents in early October:

D - Jason Demers currently has 7 assists in 9 games with the San Jose Sharks and is averaging 20 minutes of icetime.

RW - Benn Ferriero has 2 G, 1 A with the Sharks and is playing well in a bottom 6 role.

D - Matt Carkner has impressed on defense with the Senators (1 G, 1 A) and has been given top 4 icetime and was rewarded with a 2 year extension today by the NHL's Senators.

Hopefully we can continue to sign players like this and improve the AHL squad.

Neil, you're one of the best at this. Constantly trading away youth so you can contend. Normally this forces teams to rebuild but because of your ability to do this (Glencross last time I remember) you can constantly contend. Well done.

Demers was a solid pickup, Ferriero looks decent.

I was reading the box score on that Sharks game last night and noticed Demers had 7 assists already. Anytime you can get a NHL calibre player this way it's a bonus, but if the player becomes more than a lower roster guy it can be a huge bonus for you. Nice work finding these guys it's much tougher than it used to be as it's pretty competitive.

Haha...it's true. I don't think I won 2 in a row last year...not going to lie it's kind of nice to be on the opposite side of the Conference this year. Although I am relishing it now, I play Pittsburgh tomorrow and the Caps made themselves a whole lot better today so I don't think this streak will last much longer.
