I actually came on here to post the same thing but Fuzzy beat me to it. Well, it's another reason to live in this great state. Everyone around here was real shocked about the news. I wasn't surprised, he always talked with a lisp anyway. I'll be glad to see him go, he was a horrible governor. His tenure was filled with scandals, and bad decisions, high speed EZPass lanes, less money for state colleges, etc. etc. He did make the DMV better, which is the only good thing I can think of that he did in his two + years as gov. My best memory of him was in 2003 at a Devils Stanley Cup ralley he came up to the podium to say a few words and the entire crowd booed him. I have a local news article if anyone wants to check it out. So long McGreasey!

It's amazing his wife for standing beside him today.
That took a lot of fortitude if not outright guts given we're not just talking about an extra-marital affair, but a gay one.
If she hadn't been there today, the tabloid press probably would have hounded her and the kids like dogs.

Straight to the lawyer's office. I'm sure the alimony and child support will be quite nice thank you. Don't think she's losing this one....

Yeah good point. Still must be quite a shocker and in a way, humiliating.

What the hell is wrong with this guy????
Seriously, who goes up to teh podium and announces their resignation by saying "I'm really gay and have been cheating on my wife"
Dude, seriously, it's a crappy thing to do to your wife, and frankly I don't care. Just say "I'm announcing today that due to personal/family issues I will be resigning". Seems a little odd that he would do it in this way. Unless he wants to move and become the mayor of San Fran.

In fairness, he was explaining precisely why he was resigning:
1) He's married and had an affair.
2) The affair was with another man.
3) The "other" man was blackmailing him for money to keep the secret and
4) That would prejudice his ability to act in the public interest.
5) In resigning, the blackmailing might not stop and the secret would come out anyway.
So, its hard to resign for family and blackmail reasons and have the blackmail stop. You need to tie it up in a bow and lay it all out.

That is very enlightened.
There is nothing "wrong" with this guy. He was born gay in a world that is very intolerant of homosexuals. Has has proably been forced to live a lie as a straight person because of society's attitudes.

I don't think he was saying 'what is wrong' because he is gay, but has assumed that this would have been the first time the wife heard about it, which would be pretty brutal.
I'm guessing he would have told her about it prior to the speech. [/b][/quote]
Thanks for sticking up Fotze.
It wasn't meant as What is wrong with this guy for being gay, it was meant as why woudl he air all his family's dirty laundry like this.
To be fair, I didnt' read the entire article, and missed the part about him being blackmailed by the dude, so I guess it's actually a pretty good thing that he got it all out there.
Had it been a differnt situation then I'd be back to the "What the hell is wrong with this guy".

His history on gay rights issues from an MSNBC.com story:
Earlier this year, McGreevey signed a domestic partners law granting gay and lesbian couples many of the same rights as married couples. But he explicitly opposed same-sex marriages throughout the 2002 campaign and his administration.
McGreevey called on judges in 2002 to reject petitions seeking to legalize same-sex marriages, saying they would have a “detrimental impact ... in the state of New Jersey.” He stepped into the national controversy over same-sex marriages last March when he directed the state attorney general to order local officials not to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Since we're dealing with ridiculous stereotypes, we should also mention why people find Charles Bronson and his <super gay voice> really big gun </gay voice off> so appealing as well!
BronsonDW3, care to enlighten us some more?
