Default Week 1 Power Rankings

1. Vancouver Canucks - The Canucks seem to have the most chemistry out of any team, they are playing great D and have no issue putting the puck in the net. Very suprising team so far.

2. Montreal Canadiens - They seem to have some good chemistry as well. This powerhouse team is not disappointing so far.

3. Edmonton Oilers - The top guns are producing no problem.

4. LA Kings - This youthful team is getting the job done. They are one of four teams undefeated so far in the West.

5. Columbus Blue Jackets - On paper this team has questionable goaltending and would not be labeled as a contender but they are getting the job done.

6. New York Rangers - This team is playing some good team defense. Its nice to get a win when you start your backup as well.

7. Florida Panthers - Not a bad start for the Panthers. Each line seems to be chipping in on the goal scoring department.

8. Minnesota Wild - No problems scoring goals here, its keeping the puck out of their net.

9. Phoenix Coyotes - Pretty surprising team to be in the top 10. I am sure more then half the league was couting Phoenix out, but they seem to have pulled it together. Roloson is standing on his head for the Yotes.

10. Detroit Red Wings - This team has squeaked by on some games but gets the job done.

11. San Jose Sharks - Once a powerhouse in the CPHL this team has seemed to slip a bit. Toews seems to be a great fit in San Jose.

12. Ottawa Senators - Not a flashy team but overall a pretty good team. They arnt going to win a game 7-0 but they get the job done.

13. Buffalo Sabres - Pretty hard to rank a team thats only played 2 games but so far they seem to be doing fine.

14. Washington Capitals - Very similar to the Ottawa Senators. Not a flashy team but gets the job done so far.

15. Nashville Predators - This team has no problem scoring goals but it needs to step it up in the defense department.

16. Dallas Stars - Overall a pretty decent team. Needs some help scoring goals but should be a interesting team to watch.

17. Chicago Blackhawks - This team has no problems at all scoring goals, one of the best offences in the league but its whats happening in their own end that seems to be killing them so far this season.

18. St. Louis Blues - Very hard team to judge so far, pretty good balanced scoring with only 2 starters not on the score sheet so far.

19. Pittsburgh Penguins - Holding on to the 8th spot in the weak East but only have played 2 games. This is a team to watch in the East, on paper they look like a powerhouse but its up to the sim to determine that.

20. Tampa Bay Lightning - So far a pretty good team. They need work on their defence but should be a pretty decent team.

21. Carolina Hurricanes - Overall not a best 1st week. This team looks pretty good on paper so this is another interesting team to watch. Jarome Iginla seems to be fine putting up 5 assists in 3 games.

22. Colorado Avalanche - Scoring doesnt seem to be the problem, its team defense and goal tending that is killing this team so far.

23. Boston Bruins - This team was one that I had lots of questions going into the season, lots of cap issues, roster issues, etc. but GM Fernet got a roster he could ice by opening day.

24. Calgary Flames - The rebuilding flames were able to get a win so far and would be tied for 7th place if they were in the weak East but thats not the case.

25. Philadelphia Flyers - Only 2 games in so it is hard to judge this team but so far they have been a pretty big dissapointment. One of the teams that was voted to be a cup contender. Joe mixed up his team this week making 3 blockbuster deals, should be interesting to watch.

26. New York Islanders - This team is not as bad as it looks. They can score goals no problem but has the most goals against so far. Hopefully they can mix up the lines a but and keep the puck out of the net.

27. Toronto Maples Leafs - This team was the most active this off season because they were forced to be. Has the team chemistry disappeared? Only 5 goals scored all season in 4 games.

28. Atlanta Thrashers - Once a powerhouse in the east but they have started slow in the 2009-2010 season. I am sure they will bounce back.

29. Anaheim Ducks - By far the biggest disappointment so far this year. On paper this team has the best defenceman core in the league by a long shot but they have struggled so far letting in the most goals in the West (tied with Chicago).

30. New Jersey Devils - Not a good start for the Devils this year. I expect out of all the bottom feeders this team will bounce back.

Good summary Pat. In a few weeks we should see some movement and likely see some of the surprises move up or down respectively.

Its nice to see the Habs up at the top, hopefully we can stay there.

Good stuff...I hope someone else makes one too so there can be an epic war like good ol days.

As for the rankings, Nucks at top with their record makes sense, theres no way they stay up there next week though, my opinion. Same with Coyotes, Jackets.

Devils are right where they belong. Ducks/Thrashers/Hawks should definitely rise. I hope the heck we can just win a game, moving up is an afterthought.

Nice work, Pat, but you don't have to be nice. The Devils are getting cozy in that #30 spot for the year, putting in homey touches like a "Home Sweet Home" sign and buying lots of beer for the fridge.

The Devils play like a team who'd rather have a bellini making machine in their dressing room.

Kyle Okposo takes exception to that statement; they'd rather have two bellini making machines in the dressing room.
