Default Just got my seasonal flu shot last week. Should I wait 2 wks b4 I get the H1N1 shot?

I know there is a big thread on the H1N1 flu shot which is great because its dispelling a lot of myths and hopefully a lot of people are leaning towards getting the shot after reading the thread.

I do have one question though... and I think its important and I didn't want it to get buried in the H1N1 flu shot thread...

I just got my seasonal flu shot last Thursday. Should I wait 2 weeks before getting the H1N1 shot. I heard about the 2 week waiting period before I got my seasonal shot, but when I got the shot the nurse said they will be administering the H1N1 shots starting on Monday and I can come in for the H1N1 shot then.

I'm now confused. Should I wait 2 weeks or is it ok to get the H1N1 shot right away. Personally I'd like to get it done right away if its medically sound, but I'll wait 2 weeks if that is what the medical community is recommending.

So, what should I do?

P.S. I'm a diabetic so the last thing I want is to get the H1N1 flu and screw up my system (its tough keeping your diabetes under control when you are really sick and can't eat properly and all the other stuff).

Where have you been hearing the 2 weeks between shots info?

My wife works for public health here in Ontario. You can get them at the same time according to her. Right now only 65+ are getting their seasonal flu shots...it is split up into phases here. Not really important to the thread, my bad.

No harm in getting both at the same time though.

I have heard it a few times (not exactly sure where exept for the last time I heard it). The last time was just after I got my seasonal flu shot and I was talking to my boss about the H1N1 shot. He had gotten his seasonal flu shot too and was told by the nurse to wait two weeks before getting the H1N1 shot (I think I'd previously heard that if you get the shots too close together they lose their effectiveness?)

Edit: I just talked to my boss again and he definitely said that the nurse said to wait 2 weeks and you are to bring in the yellow carbon copy paper they give you when you get the seasonal shot.... and the yellow paper is dated and it is proof that you have waited 2 weeks.

The nurses at vaccination clinics were talking about a potential 2 week wait between the shots, but that was mainly because the health authorities hadn't made an announcement yet so no one really knew what the policy would be. They're now saying it's ok to have both shots at the same time (which is consistent with what other countries are saying), so long as you aren't having the nasal vaccines available in the US.

The communication from Alberta Health Services has been confusing. Just got my H1N1 shot and they will do both at the same time, just in seperate arms.

So you were just being an idiot then.

Too bad. This is an extremely important subject (not mine specifically ... but the whole H1N1 shot discussion and whether to a whether not to get vaccinated). There is enough misinformation out there as it is and there are way too many people on here who believe everything they read on the internet... <shakes head>

I know you were making a joke and I'm sure a lot of other people did too... unfortunately I'm sure there are some foolish people who don't.... just one more stupid reason why not to get a flu shot.

Not important enough to spell out the word "before" though.
