I don't think you need the paper bag, I thought it was about Ray Emery, too.

I watched a report on him on tv. It is complete crap if you ask me. If I recall, he basically had a store which sold marijuana seeds, magazines, equipment, etc. and eventually published a magazine. Through the magazine you could purchase seeds, etc. from him. Well the Canadian gov't stepped in and basically said "we don't care". Then the US gov't found out American citizens were buying his stuff and now they want to extradite him to the USA and put him in jail for 25+ years.
The sad thing is, from what I gathered from the report, he will be going to jail for the rest of his life in the USA, and there is little hope/chance that he stays in Canada. Apparently this article says he IS going to be extradited.
My opinion on the matter is F*** the American gov't.
And for the record, I thought it had to do with Ray Emery as well.

My friend works for him. The guy's not only getting screwed but the Canadian government won't help him out because they don't feel he's going to endure cruel and unusual punishment.
I'd say 25 years in jail for selling seeds is pretty cruel and unusual.

He worked out a sentence with the US and I think he'll now serve 3 or 4 years.

Doesn't it say in the article provided from the OP that he plea bargained for only 5 years?

My friend said that the Americans turned it down.
Edit- but the article said it was accepted. Well that's good, but either way, the Canadian government should intervene and say no deal.

Is selling seeds illegal in Canada? or is this another case of ignored law enforcement?

Sorry, I never read the article, was just recalling from what I saw on the tv report. Hopefully his plea was accepted then for shorter time, the 25+ years they wanted to give him is ridiculous. He is not American, he isn't doing anything technically illegal, the country of his origin where he is selling doesn't even care.
Either way, Fata the American gov't. Just adds to the reasons why I hate the USA. Always thinking they know whats better for the world when in fact they don't. But I'd rather have them an ally, then nuking the crap out of us.

I am not sure if it is illegal, but he was investigated by the BC authorities, and they didn't really care what he was doing, and they left him alone. At the worse I think they fined him.

PFunk made me think of Parliament/Funkadelic. Wonder if Ray Emery ever hung with Bootsy Collins.

Listening to his wife spewing rhetoric on QR77 made me wish she was the one facing jail time.
She went on and on about how he had never entered the US; but my guess is he had to use some American postal agency or courier to complete his transactions.
Take on the Canadian gov't- I can respect that.
Take on the American gov't- you are asking for trouble. You don't fata with the Americans. Ask the residents of Hiroshima.

I don't know much about this case and the vague sense of martyrdom I get from this guy's actions make me roll my eyes, but he is challenging stupid laws that do not work and will not ever work.
Getting extradited and sentenced to five years in the slammer for something so trivial is just ######ed.
And how much money are they wasting on this? All these legal maneuverings and the cost of housing this guy for a few years must cost millions on both sides of the border.

TBQH, you've got to be a mental midget to screw with the Yankees and their draconian drug laws. I don't care if it's seeds, buds, or 8-balls of coke... Why the fudge would anyone think it's a good idea to mail anything illegal into the States? They're notorious for being tough on that kind of thing. And some tree-hugging hippy from BC is the last guy they're likely to go easy on.
You can put my vote in the same column as Bridgeman's.
