Default Remote Car Starters & Installer?

Hey, anybody use anyone reputable lately to get a car starter installed?

I used a guy from Custom Auto 2 years ago (Not Neeper), but I can't track the guy down now.
Old CP threads are pretty useless as there are about a thousand shops that'll do this and a lot go in and out of business pretty quick.

Looking for a decent 2-way starter and want to beat the snow flying...

edit:

Bestbuy has this Viper unit for $300 installed (which is what I've paid for my 2-way systems in the past), but a little leery of FS/BB installs

They also have a $249 NuStart system, and Futureshop has comparable Compustar/Firstech systems as well.....

I had BB install a 1 way Nustart about a month or so ago.

Cheapest price I could find in Red Deer and has worked fine so far

I went with Mobile Sounds last year. Very happy with the price, service, and subsequent warranty work.

And they're still in business. I was at the shop last week.

I had a few issues with the alarm/RS in my last vehicle and I was able to get some advice from Autotemp on 114 th in the SE although I did not get the to install a unit.

Also had some good work done by a small shop in the NE (not far from 32nd and 19th) don't recall the name of the place though.

If you are putting the starter in a newer vehicle you may want to investigate the warranty implications first.

Their website lists their prices....and if accurate, they're almost double Bestbuy's

Might go to my local Bestbuy tomorrow and see what they have to say. I've always just assumed BestBuy/Futureshop installs are shoddy. I also assume that their included "installation" includes nothing but the very bare bones.

And you should be leery, the way they make their money is on the add-ons and the modules that are needed for most models.

For $300.00 installed you probably need a car pre 1990.

As T@T said, if it's (IIRC) around 1999 or newer, you're going to need a few modules. The advertised prices don't include these, as they vary between make and model. On the average Ford/GM it can add around $200-300. I've seen some makes that are $600+.

The advertised price for a 2-way that I was looking at was $500 at Soundsaround and BB. After modules it was well over $800.

The company I mentioned in a previous post was the cheapest I found in the city (By about $150 - 200). Followed by Autotemp and Quinn. BB and Soundsaround were the priciest when I was shopping.

Thanks for this thread I'm looking for a starter as well.

I've got a leased vehicle - 2010 acura tsx - that I'm looking to spend as little money as possible on a starter as I will be returning the car in 3 years. Only really need a 1 Way starter.

If anyone knows of a $200-300 installed starter, please let me know!

As T@T said- you need the magical car to be able to get that price. New enough to have some of the required parts, but no so new to need more. Last time I called Best Buy for a $200 "installed" starter, they asked me the make and model of my car. My 2003 Grand Am was going to be closer to $600.

And yes, it is automatic.

I went with a guy I found on Kijiiji. $380 all in installed for a Viper 2way 5301 on my 2007 Forester.
He's came and did it in my garage on a Saturday in about 2 hours a few weeks back.
Ask Joel for a quote, he really seemed to know his stuff.

Just a heads up, you may want to check with the dealer first. That may have to come out before they'll take the lease back.

That guy botched my install and a few months later I got a check engine light due to the starter. It was several trips to the dealer and a few hundred bucks to figure out it was the starter.

I'm not the only person I know of with similar starter experiences. I'll never get another one.
