I have the game, it is 'alright'. Nothing ground breaking. I have not played with some buddies in a firefight, but did play some online by myself.

Halo doesn't suck, it is just overrated by the 15 year old nerds. I am more interested in Halo: Reach than I am ODST. ODST is waste of money at $70. It was supposed to be $40, then M$ jacked the price up because they added "enough content to justify" (firefight). ooooh. Fata you M$. I'll pick it up when it is $20.

I've got my copy sitting here at my desk at work. I'm working night shift, so I haven't yet had the chance to give it a whirl.

Imagine my surprise when I learned that it came with 2 discs. One for the actual game, another for what is basically Halo 3 multiplayer, but with the added bonus of all the DLC.

Boy, I would be pissed if I had bought all the Halo 3 MP DLC prior to buying ODST. :P

never understood the hype for Halo. i guess compared to other console FPS games it's good, but any FPS worth a damn on the PC blows it away

Halo is overrated to the nth degree personally. It just doesn't do much for me, and I think the whole thing is a tad generic for all the respect and sales it gets. Oh well. Let them eat their cake.

It has a full campaign outside of firefight.

I played the firefight yesterday for a bit. Had a lot of fun with it, but I thought it sucked that you are limited to 2 players per box to play.

Halo is more about "everybody else is playing it, so should I" than it is about being a good game. It isn't a horrible game, but it certainly is over hyped.

I disagree with a lot of you guys. Halo is definitely a quality franchise. It's a different type of FPS than most games in the genre in that it is basically a series of set-pieces where battles take place. It's not very story driven (wasn't a fan of the story myself), the music is kind of Michael Bay-movie-ish, and about half of the enemies are ridiculous looking, but beyond these relatively minor faults, there is a very good game and the multi-player is excellent, as long as you like the game itself.

Actually, I think the hate for Halo is closer to "other people are doing it so I should too" than the love for it, because objectively it's a good game.

As for the topic, I'm probably going to rent ODST because I don't play a lot of online gaming other than NHL and 6 hours for a main story isn't worth that kind of money.

The multiplayer is bad IMO, I played it for a while, and couldn't get better because everyone was a high level who didn't stop playing, and no, I don't suck at other FPS or third person shooter games, just Halo

maybe that fuels my hate for the franchise.

The competition at high levels in Halo 3 is incredible. I'm not talking about lvl 20-45 online, I'm talking about playing with the big boys, level 50 5-star generals, or playing in MLG tournaments. Halo is one of the best selling console games EVER for a reason! I'm a bit biased because I've loved the game and played it a ton since it first came out, but i've played almost every FPS on the market, from COD4 to CS, and I have to say that the way the Halo game engine works, and the mechanics of the firefights, it isn't just squeeze the trigger and pray like some of the other games. You can turn the tide of any fight in the blink of an eye. At a high level in multiplayer online, you need to be on point, because if you aren't guess what....that lvl 50 general just waxed you, your buddy and his buddy in 2 seconds with the sniper and your flag is halfway across the map before you can even blink.

I totally understand how halo multiplayer can be frustrating, if you don't continually play, you get your face mopped by 12 year olds with verbal diahhrea, but as someone who is competitive in everything, football, soccer, video games.... Halo frustrates me to the point that I need to play until i'm the best. By far the best console game for the xbox. Hands down.
