Default Nanny

For anyone who has or used to have a nanny, I was wondering about the process you used to hire this person.

Thanks in advance.

I let him take care of the whole advertising and interviewing processes, strangely enough no luck yet, they all get arrested....

Normally, you advertise. Then from the resumes/application forms that you receive, look for the ones that are experienced enough and interview them by phone. Then have a face-to-face interview and decide. Make sure that you also get references and call them.

It is better if you have friends who have nannies. Maybe their nannies can refer somebody for you. At least you have somebody who can vouch for them.

If you hire through an agency you will pay a significant amount in fees; with no guarantee that the person you hire will stick around for very long.

Most of the nannies I know are at their current job through word of mouth. If you are looking, feel free to PM me with what your needs are (number and ages of kids, and hours of work) and I can see if my friends know of people who are looking.

The other advantage with hiring somebody who is already here is you can usually get references from somebody local.

Definitely do not hire them directly from the Philippines .... hire a Filipino, yes, but not when they presently reside there .... too much grief and too much time.
