Ducks Joker comes to Anaheim

In a fairly simple deal, the Ducks shipped out injury prone forward Martin Havlat for soon to be 85 pt 2010 NHL Scorer Olli Jokinen.

To the Ducks:
Olli Jokinen
CGY 2nd 2010
PIT 3rd 2010

To the Pens:
Martin Havlat
cap

Well both guys have heavy contracts so the extra 1.5 for Olli wasn't too bad. Hopefully he doesnt suck so much where the 1 way aspect ends up killing me. At the end of the day we got the guy who we think will have a better NHL season and who is less injury prone. Havlat is younger and has a bit of a safer contract, but Goffie sent some picks to compensate for that.

Even though Grant thinks the upcoming draft is complete garbage, we hope to find at least 2 Robbie Schremps out of it this coming June.

Even deal all-around. I too think Jokinen is going to have a solid year, but Havlat could have a solid year in Minnesota too...either way pretty close.

As for the 2010 draft, from what I've read and heard it's decent with top end talent but not a very deep draft. 2011 is supposed to be fairly weak but alot can change in 2 years.

Well the wildcard in this deal is Havlat's health. One full season is not enough to convince me he is not made of glass. However when he is healthy we feel he is one of the best wingers in the game. We were deep down the middle and had to get some natural wingers in here. If Havlat can stay healthy I think his age and contract will make this deal a wash, otherwise it could look bad.
