Shaving in the shower
Ok, is there some kind of trick to this? 'Cause it ain't working...
See, the theory is, your facial hair gets thoroughly wetted and softened, so the razor cuts right through the bristles easily. Yet, I spend a good few minutes trying to make sure I get all of the face, and then when I get out and examine myself in the mirror, there are ALWAYS spots that I've missed. So I end up shaving again to touch up, which rather defeats the purpose of shaving in the shower in the first place, which is of course to get another precious couple minutes of sleep.
I've only been doing it for a couple months, so do I just need practice? Or am I just a doofus and everyone else on the planet can't understand how I could possibly screw something this simple right up?

First question... Do you have a mirror in the shower? The other trick is to put shaving cream on your mirror which stops it from fogging over. Generally I find it works pretty well.

I don't have a mirror, and the one time I tried it, I cut my face something fierce. I just do it when I get out of the shower, works well enough for me.

There are even mirrors you can get that don't fog up.

Shaving in the shower sounds like a lot of hassle. Why not shave immediately upon exiting the shower? This works for me, plus you can use shave cream and it won't wash off. Just don't dry the bottom 1/2 off your face off as you get out of the shower, and the hair will still be soft.

Man, i used to shave after a shower but was in a rush one day and tried out our new fancy non fogging mirror and now I very much avoid shaving anywhere but the shower. I just find that i get much less irritation than shaving afterwards.
Also, I use shave cream in the shower, against common knowledge, you can put your face outside the shower stream to avoid the cream from coming off.

I switched to the shower about 7years ago. I guess it takes practice because I missed patches at first as well. Now I can do it flawlessly. I never really had a good mirror; they all fogged up.
I love it. I have never once cut myself shaving this way, blades last a lot longer, and I don't go to work with big gobs of shaving cream on my ear, looking like Ben Stiller in There's Something About Mary.

When I was clean-shaven, I always used to shave in the shower. I found it was the best way to do it for the reasons burnin_vernon brought up, and also, I had trouble avoiding razor burn otherwise.
I think it's practice more than anything. Perservere! You can usually tell if you've missed anything by running your hand over your face, and if you shave in the same order every time, you shouldn't miss anything.

I love shaving in the shower... Put my some conditioner in and let it soak while I shave away...
I also use shaving gel, an a fog free mirror.
As an added bonus my wife has stopped complianing about whiskers in the sink, and the shower pretty much cleans itself.
The only little grip I have is trying to get the whiskers out of the razor under the shower (we have one of those rainfall showerheads) and it doesnt seem to always get them all out. So I just grab a cup my daughter uses to make a mess everywhere with when she bathes and use that.

I shave in the shower too, usually in the morning before my kid gets up, usually when it's dark out, and usually with the lights dimmed all the way, so it's not PITCH black, but I usually can't see anything. I shave by touch I guess rather than look, then finish off shaping the goatee in the mirror.

Put me down as one who shaves in the shower.
I also just use the shower stream to wet my brush.
Get in shower and start getting my pores open, shave, wash face, switch to cold water to close pores and then get out and start my day.
I don't have a mirror, but if I notice afterwords that I missed a small spot I do have an old electric razor that I could use to quickly fix my problem.
Save your $ on the mirror and go buy a $5 electric razor instead.

Yup, I loved the shower, went to candian tire and bought a mirror that is like a rear view car mirror or something with sticky tape on the back, stuck to the wall.. stayed forever.

I need a shower mirror so that I can try out my Panasonic wet/dry electric in the shower. Without the mirror, there's just far too many missed areas.
