Outgoing Email Server / Gmail

I'm constantly back and forth between my apartment and school. So I want to be able to use my laptop to e-mail from regardless of where I'm at without any hassle of contantly changing settings.

I thought Gmail has an outgoing server. That's great! But ever since I switch to it, no matter what email address I send from, the return address is always Gmail. I keep my e-mail addresses seperated for various things, so it's a real cheese off if I miss a school related e-mail as it's in my Gmail as opposed to my university account where I'd be expecting it.

I guess my question is, are there outgoing SMTP servers out there that will let me send e-mail regardless of what my internet provider is?

Or, is there a way to change the settings in Gmail so my reply address is the e-mail address I sent from?

You can set your reply to in Gmail, but by default it'll always have the gmail address in there too.

They added a feature recently which lets you set an outgoing SMTP server for each email address you have setup on your gmail, but this of course uses a different SMTP server than Gmail's, which sets you back at square one.

I use the SMTP server I have from my shared hosting for my domain for this.. but I don't think there would be a free outgoing SMTP server out there since that would be gold for spammers. But maybe there is.

Thanks, going to have to rotate servers it looks like. For the amount of e-mailing I do from class I guess it's not that big of a deal, just would have made life a bit easier (especially heading back to Nova Scotia on holidays)
