I wouldn't count out Moncton. They loaded up pretty good at the deadline. We had a great team all year here in Saint John ranked in the top 3 in the CHL pretty well all year.and we just couldn't hold them off in the final they really were all over us.

Windsor will be very tough. I'm tempted to write Moncton off simply for being from the Quebec league, but they won't be pushovers. Brandon will be out for blood. I really can't see anyone I'd label as a favourite.

This will be a homer prediction but...
Windsor: 3-0
Calgary: 2-1
Brandon: 1-2
St. John: 0-3
Brandon knocks off Calgary in the semi. Windsor beats Brandon in the finals.
I think it'll take Brandon some time to get going in the round robin but I think they will pull the upset behind a wild home crowd in the semi and then lose a competitive final.
Taylor Hall should feast on the goaltending in this tournament.

I'm really hoping for a Windsor/Calgary final.
I'm expecting Windsor to win though.

You would.
Actually you want Windsor to lose their round robin games. Thus making Hall unattractive for the Oilers.

I haven't followed the WHL as closely this year, but seems to me it could be a pretty even field this year.
Also, I'd like to add how nice it is to have the tournament in Brandon. It means the smaller-market teams in the CHL have a legitimate shot of hosting the tourney, and places like Brandon, Lethbridge, Red Deer, Kamloops etc. shouldn't be left out of the loop when it comes to hosting big events (although I see next year's event will be in Mississauga.. weak).

I can tell you first hand the WHL is not happy about having it in Brandon this year. They were essentially handed the tournament by default due to the lack of serious competition for hosting. Everett and Kelowna were the only other teams to bid on it with both teams not exactly contenders . The league will probably only go back to the US for a host if there are no other option due to the amount of sponsorship money Canadian companies are spending on the tournament. They have no interest in having it go south to advertise for people who can't even purchase from the various companies. Then you have Kelowna who wasn't going to get it for the simple fact they hosted in '04.
Don't get me wrong, the tournament is going to be a great success and I think the people of Brandon will turn alot of heads next week with how well they host it. At the same time, the WHL is going to go where the money is and that is definitely in the larger media markets.
I agree though, it would be good to see this become the start of something new.

I'm not sold on Moncton.
Now I should qualify, I've watched 2 QMJHL games this season, a Cape Breton vs Halifax game over Christmas, and Game 6 of the QMJHL Final.
Moncton has a high powered team, and their defence is excellent, however they seemed to go through lapses, and I just wasn't sold on Riopel in goal.
The other thing is the Q over expanded and just don't have the product they had from the late 90's through to the middle of this decade. It seemed every year people would write off the Q champions only to see them in the final. (oddly enough unless Luongo was the goaltender)
But now the overall quality of the league is much lower than it was, I'd love to see Moncton win, and in a short tournament like this anything's possible.

Extremely important for the Hitmen to win that first game against Moncton. It will be a feeling-out process in the round robin as teams have never played each other, but the team that is most ready to play in a short tournament like this will come out on top. Windsor and Brandon will be extremely tough games later on so a split there will likely be enough to get the bye to the final....most years 2-1 is enough to get the bye. I think Brandon will be the toughest team after Windsor, because as the host they will be out for blood and extremely tough to stop.

The Maple Swords?
It's a decent jersey, but has nothing at all to do with the team identity.
