Default Man charged with importing child porn commits suicide in police lot

Self Justice I suppose...

Quote:
A 45-year-old Alberta teacher has killed himself just a few days after being charged with importing child pornography following a trip to Thailand.
The body of Kerry Glen Avey was found early Saturday in the parking lot of the RCMP detachment in St. Albert, near Edmonton.
Police say it appears Avey died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head because a shotgun with a shortened barrel was found near the body.
Avey had been arrested late last month when he returned from Thailand.
Border Services officers found a large collection of CDs and DVDs of child pornography inside a suitcase, and Avey was charged with one count of possession of and one count of importing child pornography.
He was released from police custody and was scheduled to appear in court next week.

Could you imagine if more pre-sentenced criminals did this? Would save taxpayer money and free up space in crowded jails. I do feel for the family though, this can't be easy for them to take.

Well, good thing that shotgun was found nearby otherwise we might never have solved the mystery of how the man blew his own head off.

Well if they didn't find the gun, then one would assume someone else did it

If you find a man by himself in a car minus one head the connection is pretty easy to make. Self-inflicted shotgun wounds are generally pretty characteristic. I just find it funny that they had to mention that it was the nearby gun that tipped them off.

I would think that with all of the negative press the police have received over the last little while, stating how they know it was self inflicted is just a way of making sure there isn't some public outcry for an investigation.

Why would they need to mention the gun though? If they just said the guy was found dead in his car and appears to have had his head blown off by a shotgun I would sooner conclude that he did it to himself than assume that there's a shotgun-murdererin' cop on the loose who just happened to be giving him a lapdance in his front seat at the time of the murder.

are your legitimately nitpicking about this detail? maybe you should volunteer to do all police press releases to avoid giving out too much obvious information.

Decent of him to do it away from where his family would find him.

I guess I am nitpicking, I just find a sort of macabre humor in the fact that they worded it to seem like police needed the nearby gun to tell them that a criminal about to be convicted found in his front seat with the inside of his car painted with his brains may have shot himself in the head with a shotgun, like it wasn't readily apparent.

The cops I'm sure knew, but if they just reported it as he was found in his car with his head blown off, some people would assume someone else did it.

The guy was a coward. He took the easy way out as opposed to taking responsibility for his actions and doing his time in prison.

Anyone know how long he would have likely been locked up for?

He wouldn't have survived prison life. People charged with child porn are considered the lowest form of life by the prison population. Unless he served his time solitary someone would have killed the guy.
