Default Question re: dying cell phones & contracts

I bought a HTC P4000 in Aug 0f 07. The guy at the time told me I would have to wait until the last 6 months of my contract before I could consider upgrading, that would be this coming February.

This phone is really hurting now. I can take upwards of 45 mins to even turn on. When/if it does, it is so slow and un responsive it's almost un-useable.

Is there any point what so ever in calling Telus to see if they can do anything for me? What dept would I call? I figured going into the Telus stores would be a huge waste of time but what am I supposed to do with a little less than a year left on my contract and an almost dead phone?

What are my options, if any? I suppose I could try to re-load Windows Mobile 6.1 but I'm pretty sure this is hardware related and not software.

Customer relations might be able to help you out. You would most likely sign a new 3 year contract and you could probably get a deal with them, if you've been with them for a long time.

I don't know how it works with Telus, but I know that when me or my friends have had issues with the functioning of Verizon phones they replace them pretty much every time, and that's for issues as minor as poor signal strength.

I have no problem with signing another contract, I figured this would be best case scenario. No way Telus is going to replace the phone for me, at least I don't think so. Doubt this model is available anymore so the only way for them to replace the phone is to sell me a new model similar to my phone.

I've only been with Telus with a cell phone for 2 yrs. I have had a land line with them for close to 10 if that makes any difference.

Just call customer service. They'll give you the same deal if you sign a new contract.

I think 6 months might be still too far away. I think it is 3 months.

You could always just get a filler phone off ebay and switch it or tell them you're going to cancel. Doing that will escalate it to another (more superior) department and I'm sure you can work something out with them.
