Default Vista/Administrator Problem - Please Advise

Again, I am very backward when it comes to computers, so...
I find that Vista won't let me install patches or mods for certain software (games) because I am not logged in as Administrator. However, I can only log in on my laptop as myself (there are no other options) and I thought I was the Admin. Is there a way to get around this issue?

It should pop up a window requesting elevated privileges, so you probably turned that off (I can't recall where that setting is).

One way to get around that (safely) is to download the patch, then right click on it and select "Run as Administrator"

You can turn off UAC under User Accounts in Control Panel. It should be the bottom option on the left hand side.

People advise novice users to turn off the security features, then MS gets ripped for allowing malware.

The new goggles also do nothing.

I never messed with the UAC settings in Vista, and still had lots of permission problems like this.. Vista itself would give permission errors, all the important notifications would not show up under my account but would show up in a second account I created for my wife.. Firefox would upgrade for me but not for her... tons of stuff like this.

The fix was to install Windows 7.
