Why is concrete finishing not an event?
I had never heard of this actually until I was down in Calgary this weekend, and golfed with a guy who told me about it. Pretty interesting.

That would be a hell of a competition. It'd have to include prep, though.
You should see some of the crazy steps and stuff that my bro-in-law has built. Him and the guy he works with are fricken artists. They built a hexagonal fountain for one guy that was just amazing. Hexagonal basin with one hexagonal step inside, and then a matching outer rim.
The guy was some well-to-do'er that had purchased an authentic fountain from Italy and wanted a place in his yard to put it. The form structure was just ridiculous. You sure as hell don't learn that in school.

I know you've done concrete work 4x4, you should see this sidewalk we saw today. We saw them working yesterday and knew it would be an utter disaster. And boy was it ever. Probably the worst work I've ever seen, and I'm not exaggerating.
Actually there are probably many reasons concrete can't be included, but cost is likely high on that list. And yeah, with prep, it's not a quick in and out trade.

Funny, eh? Once you've done a trade (even to the modest extent that I did concrete), you're a snob for life. I can barely walk up the front walk of a friend's house without noticing great work or poor work.
Any framer or deck builder would absolutely cringe at the sight of the deck me and my uncle built this summer. But to us, it looks great!

I'm the same way. After framing and doing finish carpentry for the past 10 years I can't walk into someones house without checking how the doors are hung or eyeing things up for squareness.

Caring is stuff like physical rehab work and counseling...
Although I suppose if you really wanted out of the competition and go for a beer you could throw up your hands and yell "I don't give a crap!"

Web design huh? I bet thats really exiting to watch.
Cabinet making will be a free lunch worth of MDF dust for everybody.
I hear the Offset Printing division is really tight this year.
Restaurant Service ought to be a ring-a-ding-dong-dandy.
I really hope there will be good seats available for everybody for Wall and Floor Tiling!
I know everybody can't wait to see the plumbers in action!
Hmm, i wonder if there are mandatory drug tests in the Refrigeration division?
Make sure to watch the welding division really closely!!
I might just get plastered for the Plastering competition.
...and then to top off this whole exciting experience, I'll go watch paint dry at the Car Painting competition.
Or Ill just skip the whole thing because it's gonna suck.
Have a good time folks!

I think I would pay money to see the Information Network Cabling event - just to see someone fall through a drop ceiling. Better than NASCAR!

Oh.
That makes alot more sense than what i was pictured it as.
I was thinking along the lines of nursing
Like using proper tucking technique..speed and accuracy of cleaning up the room and emptying the bedpan before the "patient" complains about his or her pudding

If you actually saw a offset printer running you'd be amazed on how much work goes into getting everything correct.

I think this probably has more to do with people being proud of the work they accomplish than a spectator event.

I don't know what the costs involved with concrete finishing would be - and I agree some of the stuff people do is amazing - but I do know from the tour of the grounds I did last week that the "commercial cooking" category involved something like 17 commercial kitchens that were outfitted with a combined $50,000 worth of pots and pans. Would concrete finishing be more costly?
I don't know about the prep time either but that's just because I literally do not know what is involved - the landscaping one sounds really freaking neat too, they just give a huge container of dirt to the competitors and by the end of the competition it's a fully landscaped yard. Apparently in the past it has been a very popular event. If I were to go on my own time I'd probably spend some time there.

Went down their yesterday
I think Canada should embrace the trades like the european and asian countires do
Going to univeristy is a good idea, but alot of students are going for useless degrees for jobs
TRADES ARE THE WAY OF THE FUTURE!
