'Canes and Cap
Just though I would like to make a public statement about a question I keep getting asked by teams in regards to sending cap space.
During the seasons in the past and teams were in despair and about to get hit by the watchdog, I’m a pretty easy going guy in trying to help out and work as a team together without profit… GM’s that have hit me up in the past can confirm this…
This offseason, I didn’t go out and sign stupid contracts and run myself up to the cap limit with the thinking “X player is still available and I still have X cap”… I sat back and let teams spend their cap away in hopes that I wouldn’t have the financial difficulties I had at the end of last season and will be able to swing the deals I couldn’t because I only had 0.12M cap space.
Because I’ve been so tight this FA, doesn’t mean that I’m going to start handing sums adding up to 5-6M to teams that spent their way tight to the cap outbidding me in FA. There is no watchdog, therefore no emergency either… I need to improve my teams just as much as FA improved your team… getting equal cap next season in return just delays what my team can improve this year… and no chance you can get a bank loan for a 1 Million and only expect to pay back 1 Million in a years time. I am open to trading cap… but I need to improve my team doing so.
Like I said above, this has nothing to do about helping out because of watchdogs and trouble with league fines
This is not directed at any one team, I’ve been approached by a handful of teams this past couple days and feel bad about the replies I have given and I hope this at least gives an understanding of my point of view (and I'm not trying to be a hardass).
I'm not "selling" cap so therefore don't really have a price, if an offer does come around and I accept it, then I guess we'll know my price. But right now I honestly don't know what a million is worth to me other then thats a million of cap space I take on trying to imrpove my team in a deal.
