The Montreal Canadiens were getting sick of hearing Duncan Keith crying about not having his favourite defensive partner to play with, so the Habs made it a reality today by acquiring Brent Seabrook from the Devils.
The deal breaks down like this:
To Montreal
Brent Seabrook
2nd Rounder (NJD) 2010
$5.85mm in cash
To New Jersey
Zach Kassian (13th overall pick, 2009)
Mattias Tedenby (24th overall pick, 2008)
Ryan Stoa
4th Rounder (CAR) 2010
This was not an easy deal for either team to make, but the fact is the two teams are going in opposite directions. Any time I can add a player of Seabrook's calibre without giving up a CPHL'er, I will.
That being said, Stoa is a Calder Candidate this year, Kassian is a 13th overall pick, and Tedenby is just pure Swedish awesomeness. The Devils have added to their prospect depth substantially with this move. The Habs have enough prospect depth we were able to make a move like this.
Thanks to Steve for the discussions; they were on and off for the last 3 weeks so it was good to see it get done.
