Bruins/Oilers make minor swap
Oilers and Bruins made a minor deal to celebrate the start of September.
Edmonton granted Shane Hnidy, Cody McLeod and Fred Meyer the early Christmas present of a one way ticket out of Edmonton.
The victim from the Bruins is veteran defenceman Rob Scuderi.
This will strain our depth a fair bit, but Scuderi is a good defensive veteran who's NHL contract lines up quite well with his CPHL deal. It was looking like our top 4 defenceman were going to get a lot of ice time this year so Scuderi can come in kill penalty's and help anchor our third pairing. We view Scuderi as a good replacement for Willy Mitchell whom we traded earlier. Similar skill set, but at a lower level and pay scale and a younger player.
The depth sent out will put us in a pinch though. McLeod had 15 goals in the NHL and has a nice inexpensive contract. He also had a good fighting rating so he can beat the tar out of all the sissy's on the Canadiens. Hnidy is a good inexpensive third pairing guy, and Meyer still rates as an average #6 CPHL defenceman.
Want to thank KG for a pretty quick easy deal. Asked him what he'd be looking for to help him ice a team and we were able to agree on something pretty quick.
