CALGARY- A northeast Calgary neighbourhood is on alert for rats after residents discovered one of the rodents in the area last week.
A resident contacted the city after discovering a rat in a shed. Bylaw officials euthanized the rat, but saw signs of burrowing and nesting leading them to suspect there could be more rodents in the neighbourhood.
“We’ve seen evidence of rat activity so we’re staying with it until we can confirm there are no others,” said bylaw boss Bill Bruce.
We'll I'll be. Gone is the claim to being a somewhat rat free Alberta. I suspect, however, that there are probably a lot more rats in the province than we'd like to think.

That rat didn't take the bus in from Saskatchewan. It was probably born near where it was found, which means, there's plenty more.
Alberta is not Rat free. I've seen a couple while hunting but never in the city. I know they claim to be rat free but that's not the case but they do a whole lot better than other provinces that's forsure.
One of the first things I noticed on moving back to BC were rats. Really disgusting and I leave bait around my property, where it's safe. I never remember seeing them when I last lived here but they are around now and it's best to keep your doors and lower windows closed or screened.
I've seen the odd one around Calgary too, but it's rare. They probably come in by rail or truck so they'd be around industrial areas first.
