Default Wii / AV Help

I couldn't find this on google and when you search wii on here, it is too short of a word to search.

I was given a Wii today which had 2 NES games downloaded to the console. I hooked it up, played with all the settings and tried playing a disc. All of this works well.

However, when I play an NES game, first a menu screen with controller options pops up and I can see and hear the NES title screen in the background. When I close that screen, the picture blacks out and the sound stays on. AS soon as I hit the home button again, the picture returns with that menu again. Rinse, repeat.

This has to be something simple, although I don't have a clue. Why would a downloaded game require any different settings than a Wii disc?

I am using a Denon amp with the included Wii RCA cables.

Sounds like an issue with your TV. What is your connection from Denon to the TV? Yellow, Component, HDMI?

I'm using an HDMI cable. This is so weird.

Doop doop doop...act as if I said nothing. But it may have something to do with the fact the wii is simply having problems switching back and forth between 480p and 480i?. Check your system settings and switch between the outputs. I'm not sure how, but perhaps the signal from the a/v cables going into the amp and coming out through an hdmi is doing something screwy - could be because the wii doesn't support hdmi in any way and if your setting on the wii is set to 480p (which it wouldn't display through standard a/v cables anyways), it's working with the game somehow and not the the retro ones which may display at 480i?

Try connecting the Wii directly to the TV using the RCA cables. If the VC games work properly that way, it's definitely something to do with how the Denon receiver is sending the signal to the TV.
