Default iPod Touch or Windows Mobile?

For the latter, I'm thinking HTC Touch Pro 2, although it is ridiculously expensive.

I want something to use as a PDA (phone function not important). I like the diversity of the iPod with all the apps, but I also really value the physical Qwerty keyboard of the Touch (also, I'm would be using it mostly for medical software and so many programs are compatible with Windows).

What do you guys/gals think?

I have the HTC P4000. An older phone by todays standards for sure. I bought it in Aug 07 and I'm pretty sure it was on the market for at least a year when I got it. It also only had WM5.1 at the time. Solid phone and I do like the keyboard. I've had some issues with laginess since the upgrade to 6.1 but when it works, it does work well. I would like to try a newer phone with the same O/S and see how it compares to mine. I am in the market for a new phone as well and have seriously been considering another HTC product. It's either that or the iPhone. Not sure I really want a BB.

Sorry, guess that's not a ton of help but I really don't think you can go wrong with the HTC products.

Have you had time to use the iPod/iPhone keyboard?

Whenever people start wondering about the iPhone OS, they always bring up the keyboard thing. It becomes a really big deal for some people, and the thought of no tactile button scares them.

I used the phone for 5 minutes and I didn't notice. In fact, I prefer the lack of an actual button to press because I hated how small they were, how they'd wear out, etc..

I don't know about the smart word thing, but the keyboard for the HTC Touch Pro 2 is amazing.... the keys are definitely large enough and there's actually space between them as well.

It's in the preferences somewhere. I think its a new option with OS 3.0, to turn it off.

From what I've seen, the medical software for any of these devices is expensive (well, relatively so, for mobile software). So if I was going to invest in the hardware, plus the software, I'd want to invest in a platform that is going to be well supported going forward.

I don't think that platform is Windows Mobile - it's close to having run its course, in my opinion. What market share OS X mobile doesn't gobble up, will be taken over by Android for the most part, which is improving rapidly. I doubt Palm Pre's WebOS stands a chance, there isn't room for more than two big players anymore, and Palm doesn't have the cash reserves to hold on to third place indefinitely. RIMM is a world unto itself, and I don't think the devices as they are are suited for major app usage. They will remain excellent, business communication focused devices.

All my opinions, of course.
