Default CP Jihad: Vote for the #1 Dinosaur Museum

Let's help the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller beat out the American Museum of Natural History in New York...

Voted. I grew up near Drumheller and wanted to be a paleontologist as a kid, so this is a debate that I'm pretty passionate about.

Voted. Great Jihad by the way. Very good cause. Drumheller and the badlands are one of my favorite topographies.

How is the Royal Tyrell Museum doing these days? I have this image in my mind that it never evolved from the 1980s.

Having been to both the Museum of Natural History in NY, and the Tyrell Museum, I think it's a close call. But what makes the Tyrell Museum so great is the location. New York city obviously cannot compete with the actual, authentic surroundings where some of the remains actually came from. Hell, in New York there are several displays that are from the Red Deer river. Voted.

Done. The RTM is truly a world class facility and in my mind everything a museum of natural history should be. Have some very fond (and panicky) memories of taking my kids there a couple of summers ago. We were posing for a family photo in front of the giant wooly mammoth skeleton when we noticed my 2 year old daughter was missing. Turning around to look for her, I noticed she had ducked the rope and was attempting to climb the leg of the skeleton. Luckily we retrieved her in time, but not before I spent a few anxious moments figuring out how I was going to explain to museum security how their 15,000 year old skeleton got trashed.

I've been there three of the last four years, and it seems to drastically change every time I go. Took my cousin there in '06 and it was cool, but it still had a kiddy'ish vibe to it. Me and my girlfriend went in '08 and it had completely changed, it now has a much more adult, modern museum feel to it(though it still has alot of stuff for kids). I'm glad they fixed it up, it seems so much more professional and world class now. Just went again last week, and it had changed once again. I love that dark room with the T-Rex when you first walk in, awesome.

We also did a walk through the badlands around the museum, it still blows my mind that you're in Alberta when you're standing there. There's freakin cacti! Great day trip idea.

They didn't have the creationist museum as an option, so I went with the Tyrell
