Caterpillars

I'm having a lot of my tree eaten by these little guys. Anybody know what type they are and what I should do. From what I've seen before is they look like moth larva. Right now I am just leaving them to eat the leaves because that is the least amount of work. But I don't want A)lots of moths and B)to have the tree harm because the tree is struggling to take hold already. Thanks

Fire would kill them, but kill the tree. So unless you really like your tree, go with fire.

They just consume the leaves which will fall off and die in a few months anyhow, just enjoy your cool new tree decorations.

I wonder what would happen if you sprayed them with Off? Would that do anything or just really annoy the caterpillars....we need some science around these parts!

Smoke them with Raid. I'm sure there is a Raid that kills catepillars.

collect them in a jar, and light it on fire...might be interesting.

Fill a bowl with flower and add some salt, pepper and seasoning, throw the caterpillars in milk then roll them in the flower. Chuck them in a hot deep fryer. Coat with hot sauces for flavor. They are really tasty.

Blast them off the leaves with a hose, then tell all the magpies, flickers, crows, chickens, badgers, skunks or whoever to come get 'em before they climb up the tree again. Water blasting is the best way to get most localized pests off your plants and it won't hurt the tree.

I suck at caterpillars, so I can't tell you what species they are. They don't look like tent caterpillars, anyway. Many caterpillars with hairs have a bit of a sting, so be careful if you handle them.
