My bank got robbed as I got there
Scotiabank in Ranchlands...like six cop cars pull up at almost the same time and they still don't catch the guys.
Now they aren't letting me do my banking today though

That would explain the sirens earlier...I was wondering what was going on.

People still go to the bank?
Besides thieves?

That's the smiley you picked?
I worked at a bank that was held up. Totally not what Hollywood makes it out to be. You're probably lucky the robber wasn't still in the branch by the time the police got there, otherwise he'd have to ad-lib, and you don't want an idiot like that to ad-lib.

At a branch that I worked at in Calgary, the silent alarm got tripped, without anyone's knowledge. It was an accident. I wont go into details but they dont use that particular system anymore.
anyhow, the phone rings at the branch, I answer it and I get this..."This is the Calgary Police Service, please remain calm and just listen. There has been an alarm activated at your bank. Do you notice any other unusual activity at your branch?" I reply, "no." The branch is empty at this point, so I dont see anything wierd going on. The "operator" then says please state your name and give us a description of yourself. Which I do and then they ask me to not hang up the phone and to walk out of the branch. They ask me not to speak to anyone inside the branch. Just lay the phone down and walk outside.
I, of course, comply. As I walk towards the front doors, my Admin Officer looks at me and asks me where i am going, I point to the doors, shrug my shoulders and keep walking all the way outside.
As I get outside, I notice 6 cruisers outside, door open and the police all standing by their vehicles, hands on their guns. I think I remember seeing a couple of them with their shot guns out. I then see one of them motion towards me and he gets me to come over. we talk for a while about what was happening inside the branch. I tell him and they tell me to wait outside. They carefully move into the branch and the next thing that happens is that one of them comes out and says its all clear.
The false alarm cost the branch a pretty stiff penalty.
A very surreal experience.

Back when I was in school I worked at the local 7-11. They had a silent alarm button that was right under the register. Seems like a good idea except management didn't bother telling any of the employees it was there. Flash forward a couple of weeks to when I find this doorbell under the till. I pressed it a couple of time and heard nothing. I figured it was just stupid 7-11 having more crap that didn't work. Since no one important was in the store and I didn't care about the job I called my girlfriend.
So, to make a boring story quick. The police got a silent alarm and a busy signal when they tried to call the store. I was reprimanded and the employees learned about the silent alarm system. Came as a bit of a surprise to the girlfriend when I told her "I wonder what's up, there's like a dozen squad calls pulling into the parking lot".

I think the new silent code is something to do with the alarm system pin pad. I had a similar experience when a co-worker told me there was a police officer hanging around my car. So I walk out to see what's up...
Rewind about half an hour, I had just found out, officially from my doctor, that I was going to be a father for the first time. I switched cars with my wife for a reason that I cannot remember at this time. But needless to say, I was quite elated, and shocked that a cop was checking out my wifes car.
So I get about 10 feet from the car...
"Is there a problem there, officer?"
"Stay right there" (hand on the top of his gun)
"Excuse me?"
This is when he walks up to me, and I see squad cars patrolling the area.
"We got a distress signal, is everything OK in there?"
I proceed to tell him everything looked normal. They go into the branch, walk around, look in every room. Talked to them about what had happened, and I guess one of the people set their alarm code 1 number off of the distress signal, and slipped their finger.
Not sure if it cost the branch anything.

I knew someone that worked in a bank that was robbed and she said most people didn't even realize what was happening at the time.
