Default Shelf Life of Tupperware

How long do you guys keep your tupperware for? I have a good quality plastic one that I bought over two years ago. It was clear but it has a strong orange hue to it from reheating pasta throughout the years. Is it time to get a new one?

I'm thinking of buying a glass one. I heard they're more heathier for you.

When do you know its time to throw out tupperware?

Same question for Ziploc plastic containers?

Costco has a great deal on Ziploc this week, I was wondering if after 3 years they should be replaced?

If you're a guy, I beleive the lifetime of your tupperware should match the lifetime of your underwear....

my logic anyhow.

Microwaving your pasta in your tupperware is never a good idea; it'll break the tupperware down faster and chemicals can leach into your food. If you want something you can just throw straight into the microwave, definitely go with glass. As for the shelf life of tupperware, if you don't microwave it and don't let any food mold in it, it's very long; like, pretty much a lifetime.

Tupperware is warrantied for life. That should be it's shelf life. There's no reason to ever throw out tupperware.

But pasta sauce stains aren't even really a problem, it just looks a little funny. Who cares what the container looks like, it just sit in the fridge anyway. If its washed properly, and there's still stains, who cares?

There has been some concern about the leeching of chemicals out of plastics, especially when subjected to high heats. Tupperware has been pretty adamant that their microwave safe stuff is okay and safe, but I do know of quite a few people who have gone towards glass containers instead. I still have my tupperware and ziploc/gladware and use it, even in the microwave, though I have moved toward stainless water bottles.

My mom has tupperware from the 1980's that is still being used - so yeah, the lifespan on those is pretty darn good.

As said before, I am pretty sure Tupperware has life time warranty, my wife has replaced a few of hers because they cracked. And based on the grade of plastic I can't see how chemicals would over time leach into the bowl.

Those containers are like $5 at Safeway. Why would anyone keep them for 25 years? I guess some people are alot more careful than I am. Mine consistently get lost via camping or given away or left in the fridge too long with leftovers that I'm not willing to smell and therefore discarded... Or else pasta stains. When it's supposed to be clear and it's instead orange, that's a death sentence for plastic containers in my kitchen.

Think of the staining as added flavour for the next food item stored in the container. I have some tupperware my mom gave me when I moved out and it's still fine 20 years later; the only time I threw one out is when it warped from falling into the bottom of the dishwasher where the element touched it.

Those aren't Tupperware, and don't have a warranty of any kind.

on a sidenote can you believe how much a frig'n piece of tupperware cost? Man alive the wife's little brochure had all kinds of stuff but your basic container to hold your lunch is like $25. That must be some damn nice plastic.

I'm not sure I can recall ever throwing away Tupperware; unless it's just a part that is missing the rest; like an extra lid. Mind you a lot of that has to do with my previous job and the work fridge Nazis that were there.
