Default Classic Teams in an NHL Video Game

Having been addicted to NBA2K12 for the last several months, and considering how much of a better game it is than NHL 12, I have no doubt that we're going to see classic NHL teams start making an appearance in future Hockey video games, either from EA or 2KSports. I know that at least some employees for game developers read this forum, so I want them to know how much the audience wants this feature in the game too. To that end, I'd like to know what teams people would like to see included.

Suggested teams:

60's teams
65-66 Canadiens
66-67 Maple Leafs
62-63 Red Wings

70's teams
70-71 Blackhawks
70-71 Canadiens
71-72 Bruins
74-75 Flyers
76-77 Canadiens

80's teams:
81-82 Islanders
85-86 Canadiens
86-87 Oilers
89-90 Flames

90's teams
91-92 Penguins
91-92 Blackhawks
92-93 Kings
95-96 Avalanche
95-96 Flyers
96-97 Red Wings

I've been thinking the same thing. Good list.

Why the 89-90 Flames instead of the cup-winning 88-89 team? You miss out on Loob and McDonald by going a year later.

I recall that some of the NHL 2K games had classic teams.

Quite a few -> http://www.giantbomb.com/nhl-2k6/61-9031/

EA may be scared to do something like that though with the NFLPA Alumni and NCAA lawsuits currently relating to player likeness in game without license.

I'd love to play NHL 94 or 96 with modern teams and rosters. That I would buy.

I know, but going with the 89-90 team gets you Sergei Makarov and Paul Ranheim and a slightly older Theoren Fleury. Also, it's too easy to just pick cup winners and finalists. I wanted to include teams who maybe didn't find post-season success, but were damn good teams. I think the 89-90 Flames fit that mould perfectly. Other teams who would fit include the 95-96 Flyers, I'd love to see the 99-2000 Blues in the game too, also the 1992-93 Nordiques.

are their specific names used in those games? wasn't that the reason when they did that in the past it would just be numbers and generic names? or have they gotten so touchey about the subject that they are suing simply because the no named player in the game represents their likeness?

i agree totally with this idea. and i would think that the developers would be on board after trying out the idea with the legends this year. hopefully they will realize that hockey is a team sport and famous teams would be much more fun than just famous players...

The latter. They would just use the player number and position as their names, but mimic their look and attributes to reflect their appearance and play.

I'd like a hockey game that took the classic motif one step further, and brought back the hooking and holding, cheapshots, line brawls, guys going into the stands to deal with hecklers, no helmets, etc. I want to be Pat Quinn and knock Bobby Orr unconscious. I want to waterski behind a guy all the way to the net, and then slewfoot him to prevent the goal. If he does get away from me, I want him to potentially suffer grievous injury when he runs into the unmoving posts.

I want my player to be a bit hard to control cause he got his bell rung, or because he's playing with a broken ankle. "Elbow" should be a button on the controller for this version of hockey. A Gordie Howe hat trick should automatically give my player and my team a boost for the next five minutes.

Basically, a game that celebrates the rough and tumble heritage of the sport. Maybe I'm looking for WHA 2012, I don't know.
