Big BIG $$, and the fact that CTV now has TSN to help them out for programming.
Too bad, CBC does the best coverage in NA.
CTV did the Calgary games and they were poor on TV from what I recall.
It means all (the overdramatic) Rod Black, all the time

###### they did 1994 also and the coverage was sh*t at best. This means that the hockey will be some crap coverage also. This really is a big disapointment as CBC does it the best, they have the experience, they have the crew, basically they have everything already set up and then CTV comes through in the clutch. I don't have cable at my place so I am going to miss some of the events because CTV will show them on TSN. If the games are going to be on pay per tv sh*t I am going to be very upset, not so much if it is TSn but if it is something like the outdoor life network.

Aren't CTV and TSN affiliated, or owned by the same parent company? If so, we'll see lots of TSN guys covering things, and probably have Miller/Maguire (or whoever the TSN broadcast team is at the time) doing the hockey.

Maybe they'll bring Johnny Esaw back and prop him up next to the track.
CTV is terrible at this kind of thing.

Horrible, horrible news. I know CBC takes a lot of abuse on this site, but they do sports coverage very, very well.
I only hope CTV models their Olympic coverage after what CBC has been giving us, and not the NBC model of human interest stories taking precidence over live coverage of the events.

Who's to say CTV can't get a few better announcers and crew in the next 5 years?

CTV also joined up with Roger's, which means it should be broadcast on Sportsnet as well...
I don't like the idea either. I've always though CBC did a good job covering the Olympic games.

I swear to god, if I have to hear Dave Randorf call all the hockey games, I'm going to shoot someone.
Guy just annoys me for some reason.

I wonder how are resident Sportsnet reporter feels about this one... one of a few of the people on TSN/CTV/Sportsnet that I really enjoy.

Don't like it.
And I like Rod Black!
CBC has (imo) excellent coverage of the Olympics. I know of some Americans living close enough to the border to pick up CBC that prefer it to NBC- and that, despite the emphasis on Canadian athletes.
... And besides, Brian Williams and the Olympics go hand in hand!
I had a feeling that with the $$$ this tv contract would be going for that CTV would likely end up with it.
Here's hoping they do as good a job as CBC, or I will be very upset.

Good God! anyone watching the 88 olympics on tv in Calgary just fainted. CTV coverage of the olympics is almost as bad as NBC. I hate Rod Black.

It's really a shame Canadians don't value the CBC as much as I think they should. I is a good channel that could be an excellent channel.
There's an exemplary model of what a public broadcaster should be: BBC. Why we don't adopt this type of system is beyond my comprehension. Oh yeah it's because we need to watch American Idol, Fear Factor and other crap like that.

This could be the end for CBC Sports.
They'll do the next couple Olympics, but they weren't in the stratoshpere as far as $$ went for this.
Interesting debate on Primtime Sports on the radio...point was made that who know show the Olympics are going to be shown in 7 and 11 years. In the last 10 years with the rise of the Internet and cable options, the Olympics has lost some of the cache for me already.
Add to the fact, the professional and knowledgable and most of all comfortable CBC crew.....Dave Randorf doing skiing? Not quite the same as Scott Oake etc.

Anyone else think that CBC may have had to pull back the reigns a bit with their bid because they are suffering so much right now from the lack of revenue generated by their number one revenue generator - HNIC??? Just a thought.

Not sure. Perhaps. A more interesting question however is that as a public broadcaster, one paid for with your tax dollars, should the CBC be enterring into such outlandish bidding wars?

Too bad. I love the CBC generally and their coverage of big sporting events is second to none...
