Icon56 Thrashers - Predators make a deal

To Atlanta:

Ryan Smyth (67 ov) ($9.0 M contract @ 1 year)
$5.8 M cash
2010 3rd (Atlanta)
2010 4th (Atlanta)

To Nashville:

Kyle Brodziak (61 ov - $1.1 M contract @ 1 year)
Prospect David Rundblad

We made this deal because we needed to fill the one gaping hole on our team....left wing. Smyth will slot into the top line LW and play with Datsyuk and Hossa. Our entire team other then a 4th liner is now set. Nashville got a good prospect in Rundblad but to get a 67 ov player, you have to give up a good asset. We feel it's a fair deal both ways. Thanks to Victor for the talks.

Pretty much as Neil lays it out above. We needed to save money, and this saves us a couple of million. We also get Rundblad and the serviceable Brodziak.

Thanks to Neil for the deal!

Considering that Nashville first got Smyth for a measly 3rd round pick they did okay turning around and selling him off. Gets Atlanta another legitimate top 6 winger to add to an already strong team. Looks like it works for both teams here.

Yeah the cap coming back was huge for us though. There wasn't any cap in the original transaction between Detroit and Nashville. Almost 6 in this so we take on 2.1 M in the deal and move from a 61 ov to a 67 ov. At the same time, Nashville turned a 3rd into Brodziak and Rundblad. Great asset management for them.

Yeah, good deal for both sides. Good job Slava in your asset management here, well done.
