Goalies not named Irving or Keetley

Trying to keep track of who we've got and where...

I remember word was going around that we had until 15 August to sign recent Bowling Green grad Jimmy Spratt. Haven't heard anything so I assume he's no longer Flames property.

2009 draft pick Joni Ortio played for TPS Jrs in Finland last year and was drafted by Swift Current in the CHL import draft. From what I gather he's in tough to win the backup role with TPS in SM-Liiga (the top Finnish league), let alone the starters role so he might be back with the juniors. This led to speculation that he might come over to play for Swift Current where he might get more playing time and of course be in the WHL for the Flames to keep an eye on. Tried a Google news search which seemed to bring up a couple day old article from Swift Current's Southwest Booster saying that Ortio wouldn't be coming over for SW's camp, but couldn't get the link to open.

So long story short, apart from Irving and Keetley we've only got Ortio who looks like he won't be in the Finnish top league this season. Still should be a lock to represent Finland at the WJC this season though.

Sutter said Ortio had a year left on his contract with his Finnish team and won't be coming over this year

Another notable aspect of camp is that the team will be without an import as veteran Jan Dalecky will not be back and newly drafted goaltender Joni Ortio will be returning to Finland this season.

"No the goalie that we drafted, he is going to go back. He is an unbelievable prospect, it is too bad that he wouldn't be here this year. I can understand, he is a real good student, he want to go back and finish his school and he has some army duties that he want to get back there. I think that is the best thing for him and I hope that he plays a lot of games and he will be ready for us next year."
