Default Any other CPers Ride Motorcycles? (post what you ride)

Somewhat inspired by Fozzie's thread.

Just curious as to how many other CPers are pulling their hair out waiting for things to clear up so they can hit the road, and what everyone rides.
Besides, I'd rather ask about bikes than watches, jeans or underwar.

I've got two bikes a 2004 Honda Shadow Aero 750 (hardly ride anymore, but I've got a sentimental attachment to it).

and a 2006 Yamaha MT-01 (bought new last year)
Crazy fun to ride!

So, what do you ride?

Hey Shantz...............have you ever rode a Yamaha FZ1?

I used to own one but sold it, and ever since the MT-01 came out, I drool when I drive by the dealership. I have always wondered how it would measure up to the FZ1, because that bike was so fun!

What kind of power/handling does it have? Can you comment?

I've never ridden a FZ1.

That being said being an inline 4 I'd imagine the FZ1 is a little more snappy than the MT-01.

Keep in mind that the MT-01 only makes ~ 90 HP, but the torque curve is pretty much flat, so the throttle response is more like a really big cruiser than a sport bike.
It'll accelerate at pretty much the same pace all through the RPM range (and let's be clear, it's a pretty good pace), but you wont get that crazy kick in the ass at 10000 RPM that the sport bikes will give you. It's a different feel, but I love it.
As for handling, I haven't had any problem keeping up in the corners with my buddy on his VFR so it probably handles well enough that about 90% of riders won't be using it all.
The only real issue I have with it is that the top speed could be better.
I've gotten up to 208 km/h and that was all it could do, so the FZ1 will have it way outclassed in that category.
I know I'll never have to go that fast, but it'd be nice to be able to if I wanted to.

It's a niche bike.
If you are looking for a pure sport bike it isn't gonna impress you. But if you want something unique that is really fun to ride it's a great bike.
That all being said it is NOT worth the $16000 MSRP. I got a really good deal on a new 2006 right out of the crate last year ($10000) and I'm happy with it, so if you want one, look used, or for a new one that is a few years old (there are still a few in town).

I have an old Honda Shadow that will not die, which is nice because I can't afford anything new right now.

Most likely get a VTX in a few years.

Love the MT, BBS. Gorgeous.

I only have an old pic of my current ride, a 2007 Bandit 1250. Has a Yoshi exhaust since this:

I confess, I really, really, really like riding the g/f's Ninja 250:

I can't help rubbing it in a bit... I rode into work today, same as every day. Living in Brisbane is great for a motorcyclist.

I've got an 02 VFR that I bought new. I like it but I'm getting a little old for the trips I like to go on with it.

I just took the safety lessons this weekend, highly recommended if anyone is on the fence. Hoping to get the license soon, and then possibly a 2001 Suzuki SV650S from a co-worker who is selling it.

Thanks, I look forward to it. I have never so much as ridden a dirt bike, so the lessons were great.

Depends what you are after.

A new, smaller cc bike aimed at beginners can be had for a few thousand. Then... basically the skies the limit. Most japanese brands are affordable, the Harleys can get quite expensive, same goes with the high end Italian bikes.

If you are thinking about getting into motorcycling as an adult, and have no experience whatsoever, I would maybe look at getting something like a Honda Rebel.

250cc, they are cheap, cheap to insure, and make a great learner bike. I wouldn't even bother buying new as you can find these things everywhere in the classifieds for dirt cheap. And if you found one that has been taken care of, and continue to do so, they will last forever.

Also, I would recommend taking the MSF course like oilers_fan did. There is tons of valuable info to be learned.

There's nothing like riding. There really isn't.

Gear up and be safe!

my 2K8 GSX1300R Hayabusa..

Awesome machine, my 3rd Hayabusa and 9th motorcycle. I do have a huge soft spot for VFR's though. Best all round bike ever. The 98-2002's were georgeous machines and if I can find a nice one I would snap it up in a heart beat for a daily commuter. But the Busa power is megaq addictive. If I could get a 2002 Tahiti blue VFR with a Gen 2 Busa engine I would be in heaven.

Over the years I have had:

1: First bike was a 1986 GS550ef
2: 92 Kawasaki ZX-6E
3: 96 VFR 750
4: 02 VFR 800
5: 03 Gen1 Hayabusa
6: 04 HD Duece
7: 05 HD V-rod
Came to my senses and realized cruisers are for losers, or at least guys that would rather stand around a parking lot in Bragg Creek and talk about riding and think they accomplished this huge feat by riding 20 minutes to get there.
8: 06 Gen1 Hayabusa with massive amounts of mods and was way to gonzo for a daily rider. ######ed fast though. Ended up dynoed at 234 rwhp.
9: 08 Gen2 Hayabusa, Gonna leave this one stock at 194 HP. Maybe a new set of cans next spring, but that's it.

The VFRs changed over in 02 to the VTech motor. I think you are looking for a 98-01 although I don't know why, the Vtec models are great.

How did you like the V-rod? That's probably the only cruiser that might interest me although the Vulcan cruiser I had, had trouble getting out of it's own way.
