Default Arturo Gatti is dead

http://tsn.ca/boxing/story/?id=284455

I know boxing is for old people and all that, but this guy was quite a fighter.

I don't know what's worse... that my first thought was "who cares about some mob boss", or that, upon reading the article, my second thought was "drugs".

Sad. Really feel bad for his wife and kid.

I don't know if I'd jump to drugs. I'm not familiar with the area, or any particular area of Brazil, but I do know that theft crimes are rampant in some places. Getting clubbed over the head by somebody breaking into your apartment seems pretty plausible.

Sad news, this guy was maybe the most entertaining fighter I've ever seen.

For sure one of the most entertaining fighters to watch and he could take a good punch as well. This is very sad and devestating news to the entire boxing community. May he RIP.

And by the way, boxing is a far better sport to watch then that UFC garbage. By no means is it an old people sport.

Thats too bad really.

Boxing could use more blood and guts scrappers like this guy. He was all heart. His fights with Irish Mickey Ward were fantastic!

They are both great sports. I started out with boxing, and got into the UFC during ufc 1 and have been hooked ever since. I do prefer the UFC by a wide margin these days. It's just a more complete sport.

That said, Arturo Gatti was a great fighter and as someone said above his fights with Mickey Ward were great. R.I.P.

sad news.

I used to like boxing a lot - in fact I trained at Inner City Boxing club for a year and a bit - but I don't care for it much anymore. What I can't stand in boxing is that unless the guy gets knocked out, the loser stands there and runs his mouth about how he got robbed by the judges - no matter how badly he was beaten pillar to post. Further, the different divisions are so corrupt about who gets what ranking and who gets the next title shot that it really is a big joke. Boxing has yet to hit bottom, but it's coming close. In the interim, I really enjoy the UFC and will be getting the PPV tonight.

I just watched Ward vs. Gatti 1 & 2.

Great fights. Going to watch #3 when I get home. They're on Youtube btw.

I don't understand how Ward was alive after the first fight. Gatti absolutely punished him and it was like he didn't miss a beat.

A Canadian who was involved in a RING magazine 'fight of the year' on four occasions.

Even I will agree with that. Affliction shirts = lame. I'm a huge mma fan but would never wear the gear that's for sure...

Still MMA > boxing.

It's strange I always forget that Gatti is Canadian.. Still the circumstances surrounding his death seem very strange.. It really is too bad there aren't more fighters like him.

Ward had vertical double vision as a result of the brain damage he suffered in the third fight. He need brain surgery to correct it.

edit: he fought the three final rounds unable to focus on anything close than 10-15 feet away.

I love that vicious left hook to the body, though. I wish they would go back to smaller gloves.

Sad news. Gatti was a true warrior. If you haven't seen his wars with Micky Ward, they're worth looking up on YouTube.

Round 9 of the first Ward fight was perhaps the most courageous round of boxing I've ever seen ("And here comes GATTI BACK!":
