Spend what you can comfortably afford to spend. Don't listen to any formula crap where you should spend x times your monthly salary or crap like that.
If she's not happy because its not expensive enough, she's not the girl for you.

was there a matching band for the engagment ring.
many are sets and it might be worth considering that.
If not, I dont think there is a dollar amount. you have to make sure you find something that matches the engagement ring. And I would strongly recommend taking her with you.

Don't look at the price first. Find which ones you like the best and then see if the price is in your range. You may end up spending less than you thought and you'll get the rings that you actually want the most.

Is it the guys responsibility to buy the damn wedding bans also? Isnt that normally a matching couples thing where you buy them equally? You already bought her an engagement ring, the wedding day is basically a big party for her where you are a guest. The more I look at it, the more it seems that weddings are just another screw job day against the guy - much like valentines day.

I think its more important for her rings to match than for mine and hers to match. I'm not super materialistic anyways, so she can buy me whatever ring she wants. I just don't want another massive ding to my wallet... i can only handle so much!!

No, I think the cost for the wedding bands is usually shared equally assuming that they both have good incomes. If he is the only one working though.... what other choice is there? Unfortunately, that is how it works for some people.
Fortunately for me, we are sharing the cost.

Obviously but this is 2009, not 1970. We have to assume she works unless alltherage is a millionaire and he is getting himself a trophywife.

Ahh, isn't splitting the cost pretty much irrelevnant if you're getting married?
Whether it comes from your bank account or hers, aren't you pretty much sharing evertying anyway?

I wouldn't count on it with the way people have been laid off lately. Besides, even in 2009, women still get paid less than men or choose to stay home and look after the family (more common in some cultures than others).
But yeah, if they are getting married, then they are pretty much splitting the cost anyway since everything is pretty much 50/50 after that.

Find out if she wants diamonds on her wedding band or a simple wedding band of the same material as her engagement ring.
There are engagement bands with a "channel" setting, ones that have 3 fair sized diamonds, ones that have tons of small diamonds throughout the band, etc...
In my experience, there really is no "quota" for buying a wedding band. I would find out what she wants or go shopping together. If you can convince her that the plain band is best (use the "it won't detract/muddle the look of the diamonds on the engagement ring" argument) you should be fine expense wise (especially if the band is yellow/white gold).
As other posters have said, getting a matching set is common. Regardless, going shopping together is actually fun and exciting and takes a lot of pressure off of you to guess what she wants.

I think I pretty much have to get her one with diamonds. This is her exact engagement ring:
I think I need to get one that matches the side diamonds... does anyone have a similar ring with a plain band? How does it look?

I know this is a bit of topic, but I feel your pain and I'm going through the same situtation.
I'm not a jewelrly guy by any stretch of the imaginiation ... in fact I hate rings ... never have worn one and I promised myself I never would. So when it came down to buying a wedding ring for myself, I struggled with it. I wasn't willing to pay 350-600 for a ring, that was cheesey gold and gawdy.
My fiancee stumbled upon Titanium Knights via Etsy http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id...ion_id=5543043
They make titanium based wedding rings for men for like 45-100 dollars. Classy, well crafted and super reliable. My ring came in the mail last week and I'm actually excited to wear it.
Anyways, I thought i'd share that with you guys, as it sounds like you're in the same situtation that I was in.

I've been looking into "alternate" materials for mine. The only problem I've heard with those is they cannot be resized if/when your fingers grow/shrink and they cannot be cut off in an emergency (for those that work in certain professions).

I like white gold, but yea, those titanium ones are sick. I do like having rings actually, they just dont need to cost a lot imo. My parents gave me a grad ring and I love it. It wasn't one that the school made, so it wasn;t a massive looking championship-esque ring, but i do love it.
Its like this only switch the gold/whitegold. and mine has more, but smaller diamond chips.
