Default Help me CP, you're my only hope: TV's

I need a new TV, but I don't know much about them.

Mine zonked out last night, and I need a new one.

I want something in the 40+ inch range (that's what she said HAHAHA), and it's screen has to be able to sustain severe beatings from my Wii and PS3 in terms of usage.

I am prepared to spend between $1000-$1500. Obviously, it has to be a flat screen and I'm not sure where to start (brands, quality, pixelage, etc.).

Any suggestions as to what TV's are the best type to get for my purposes and that price range?

You'll want a 1080p LCD. Sharps are the best, I think.

I got this about 8 months ago, and it's absolutely amazing.

Yes, it's about double your specified price range. Yes, it's worth it.

Here's something of comparable quality but a little smaller, for $1,700.

1080p with a 120Hz or higher refresh rate looks super sharp when gaming.

My dad just got a Sharp Aquos (40", 1080P) for just over $1,000 at Best Buy. Very nice.

I have a 42" Sharp Aquos ... love it to pieces. However, if I were to do it all over again I would have saved some money and gone with a similarly sized (or slightly larger) LG. Many people will complain about the LG ... except people who actually own them.

Please read this quick article with some tips on buying a TV. I agree with them wholeheartedly. http://foxyurl.com/ouF

edit: oh and don't forget ... buy all your cables from monoprice.

We have a Toshiba LCD, like this one, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16889253134 I recommend the Regza line. Love it for gaming and for sports.

Sharp's are not the best. They have been declining in picture quality for a while now. While still decent TVs, they just don't compare to Samsung or Sony, who generally have the best picture quality. Sharps dejudder doesn't look as nice as the Bravia MotionFlow Engine, nor whatever Samsung uses.

I grabbed a 40-inch Sony Z series last month for $1300. Last years models that have 1080p and 120hz are great deals if you can still find them. You can even grab the 46 inch for about $1600.

My brother in laws Sony LCD looks really good. No problems. He scored a 40 inch 1080p XBR for around $1600 I think.

I have a love hate relationship with my 720p Panasonic Plasma. I'd buy another plasma but I couldn't recommend one to someone I don't know.

Good deals posted below.

Costco is a nice place to buy for their warranty and return policy/ price matching.

I've heard Walmart is really good for warranty too. They have some great deals on right now.

You can get a really good TV for around $1000. I don't even think you need to spend that much though.

Prices have really come down recently on slightly older sets and last years models.

For gaming you need a fast response time. I think in your price range you might actually be smarter to go with a Plasma. Burn in doesn't happen nearly as much or as bad on these now, and most will have a "white washing" feature that will get rid of it if it does happen anyways.

I have an LCD but my next TV will be Plasma.

Expensive LCD > Expensive Plasman

Inexpensive Plasma > Inexpensive LCD

Thats my opinion. I used to sell these things about 6 months ago.
