Default Trouble searching for emails

When I email clients I put their surname into the subject line for ease of tracking. When I search for these emails by last name, they aren't always found. For example, if the name Smith is in the subject line and I search for emails using Smith in the search box, the emails don't come up. Am I doing something wrong? I just did a search this morning and didn't find the email although it is in my inbox. I had to find it manually.

What program are you using to view your emails?

I wish google would sell a gmail client to corporations. It's amazing how much better/faster the search is than anything I've used.

I am pretty sure you can set something like this up with google sites.

Google Desktop will search e-mails as well. Very very handy.

Sorry, I use Outlook. I've never used Google desktop to search. I'll have to try that.

Google hosts that email, which means that if a corporation uses a Microsoft Exchange server to handle it's email service, it's primarily incompatible.

I'm actually curious about email client software now. I can't use Gmail anymore since it adds "on behalf of" to the Sender header, and when I'm sending on a different address, that just looks unprofessional. (Point of interest, MS Outlook is the only email client that seems to even pay attention to the Sender header, instead of the From header - good lord email is a hack of a technology...)

Is there a client that will add colours and labels to emails similar to how Gmail does it? I'm using Mail.app from Apple and am finding it incredibly limited feature wise.
