I guess someone else found out about it.

and there's no need to dig through 300+ messages of the random thoughts thread.

The key to making a Batman Gambit work is by carefully guiding and manipulating the motivations of those involved, so that the "obvious" course of action to them is to do what will make the gambit work and it never occurs to them to do things that would ruin the gambit. Because of the presence of this obvious failure mode, anyone who tries to pull off a Batman Gambit and fails often just ends up looking like a fool.

Puns are little "plays on words" that a certain breed of person loves to spring on you and then look at you in a certain self-satisfied way to indicate that he thinks that you must think that he is by far the cleverest person on Earth now that Benjamin Franklin is dead, when in fact what you are thinking is that if this person ever ends up in a lifeboat, the other passengers will hurl him overboard by the end of the first day even if they have plenty of food and water.
— Dave Barry, "Why Humor Is Funny"
Hahaha, I make puns all the time. People always say "You're not funny" as if in some way I was trying to amuse them... the amusing part to me is their facial expressions of annoyance and the awesome groaner sounds they make. So satisfying.

There's a great book written on this by a scholar, Joseph Campbell called "The Hero with a 1000 Faces." It basically looks at the typical Western hero mythical formula. Apparently the book inspired the way a lot of modern movies are written. The Matrix, for example, is basically a modernized copy of the hero archetype.

Bill Moyers talked with Campbell about that a lot in The Power of Myth, in relation to George Lucas and the characters in Star Wars.

Yeah, that's right. Lucas basically had that book on hand while he wrote the Star Wars script.

It's an interesting theory in regards to religion, as well. Most of the biblical figures are similarly archetyped in heroes. Likewise, we recycle or renew those same myths, ie. Neo is basically Christ the Messiah in The Matrix.
