I hate smokers throwing butts on the ground
So I pull up to work today and this one guy walking into the neighbouring bay in our building threw a cigarette on the ground (only a quarter smoked and still lit). And when I say threw I mean he flicked it high in the air away from him only the way giant ######s do (and toward my car, my limited edition 1990 Pontiac Tempest with paint peeling off hopefully into a image of Jesus so I can sell the car for millions). Anyone that knows me knows I hate people throwing cigarette about, and I always want to go up to cars of people that throw cigarettes out of the window at red lights, pick up the cigarette and flick it onto their passenger seat and say “You dropped this”. Well today when I saw this I may have snapped a little. A colleague pulled up at the same time and I told him what I was going to do. I picked up the lit cigarette and marched into the guys building, up the stairs into his office and put the lit cigarette on his desk and said “I have no respect for people throwing cigarettes in the parking lot.” His response... “You could have thrown it out in the ashtray.” Not the right answer. “No, you could have thrown it out in the ashtray” I reply, knowing full well I won that exchange hands down. So at that point I walk out and he follows behind me and takes a drag of his cigarette and throws it out in the tin can ashtray that they have. The kicker, the ashtray was less than one meter away from where the flicking incident took place and right beside his building’s door.
If I was a cop this would be my war, I would give tickets every day for that. It is the only thing that makes me really angry constantly.

That may be so, but it is MY right to not have to breathe in carcinogenic substances in cigarette smoke while in public places. Private businesses, fine. But I wont be giving them any of my business.
That may be OT but whatever

Well done, this is one of my big annoyances as well. To the smokers here, do you do this? be honest; it seems that 99% of the smokers I've ever met just throw their butts anywhere they please and don't feel it's an issue at all.

Not cigarette related but last night I was going for a walk to the park with my little sister, and this ladies dog took a dump right off the sidewalk heading to the park. She just kept walking, so I shouted "Hey, why don't you go back and clean up your dog ****?" She replied, "Uhh, I already did."
"Uhh no, actually you didn't" I say in an extremely sarcastic tone. " Because I just watched your dog take a dump right there."
She waddled back, cleaned it up, then picked up her cell and called someone. She was talking really loud so I could hear her, probably on purpose, telling whoever was on the other end that "Some ***hole just told her to clean up her dog ****" and that I "should mind my own ****ing business." She also claimed she was going to come across the street and throw the bag of dog feces at me.
She wandered over to where I was sitting beside the park, saw that I probably would have pounded the living hell out of her if she put dog feces anywhere near me, threw the bag in the garbage, and said "There, are you happy?"
My response was "F*** off." That was the end of that.

I am not sure what it is about nicotine that makes smokers the most inconsiderate people in the world. Somehow their addiction makes it okay to ignore social norms.
My mother cannot seem to realize that smoking leaves smoke in the air and in the furniture and carpet etc, and that when my 3 year old is in her house he is being exposed to that crap - it doesn't matter that she is not smoking while he is in the house.
Glad you had the balls to act on this, and glad you didn't get beaten for your actions.

Yup, smokers and their sad attempt at looking "cool" by flicking their butts up in the air...
I have gotten into it with random smokers that have "dropped" something, they really hate getting busted and generally look embarrassed and ashamed of themselves.
Quit littering and good luck with the mouth and lung disease.

I love when I am on vacation and see tourists do it on the beach. Not only is it disgusting, but it is a HUGE killer of marine life (IE: Dolphins). These people are wipping out the very places/things they are paying to go see.
Not to mention the fact the vast majority of local grass fires and a number of forest fires can be traced back to (most likely) smokers throwing butts out their windows.
Smokers are kind of a funny/dirty group anyways though. Never surprised when I see them litter.
Claeren.

I'm a smoker and I'll admit, I throw my cigarettes wherever. If there's an ashtray around, I'll put it out there or throw it in a cup or try to dispose properly, but I would say about 75 percent of the butts I throw out are disposed of in a way that would make you guys upset. I throw butts out the car window, if there isn't an ashtray at my buddy's apartment balcony, I'll throw it over the edge. I really have no excuse for it. Laziness maybe?? I don't throw it on the ground thinking to myself, "screw the enviroment, screw the people, screw non smokers" or anything like that. I just really don't think about it.

Well you will be happy to know that I have a friend who is a cop and he will go out of his way to give tickets to drivers who throw cigarette butts out their windows.

I am fully behind this as a smoker. I can't stand when there is an ashtray surrounded by a pile of butts. I will even usually spit on the ground and use it to put out my smoke so I can throw it in a garbage can if there is no ashtray. There is no excuse for this in Calgary really as every building tends to have an ashtray.
My beef is with Vancouver; once smoking was "banned" from in front of buildings, every business figured they did not have to tend an ashtray. The streets in front of bars, restaurants, and coffee shops went from fairly clean to giant butt piles.
If we all work together we can keep our communities clean!
As an aside, you mentioned smokes were not biodegradable. I have often heard the exact opposite. What is the trufe CP braintrust?

I smoke and don't typically throw my butts on the ground. When the city passed the law where you couldn't smoke 5m from an entrance, a lot of buildings simply removed their ashtrays. This can be frustrating because I know some guy has to come sweep it up if I put it out on the ground. The entrances to C-Train platforms also have no ashtrays anymore.
I never throw butts out of my car window or flick them.

As a dog owner, I thank you. People like this give dogs a bad name.
Good on the OP too. I'm not sure when it became acceptable for people to litter as long as they smoke, but it really has to stop.
