Default Beer tax recinded!

Alberta's premier has rescinded the recent increase in taxes on liquor in Alberta. Ed Stelmach also promised there will be no new taxes, no PST, and no tax increases while he is premier.

Odd decision to say the least. He has really backed himself into a corner where he will really have to take a chainsaw to expenses to try to eliminate the deficit.

Well now CP needs to be on the lookout for which liquor stores in town actually change their prices.

I went into a liquor store about a week ago. They wanted $38 for a 15 pack of Bud.

Raise the taxes on smokes to make it up. Maybe more people will quit or not start and long term put less strain on health care.

So my question is, how do they make liquor stores accountable to this now?

They don't. We're all at the mercy of Big Bear.

The health care system would collapse if it wasn't from the taxes you get from smoking.

I am going to guess the new, $1.50 on a case of beer tax, that was announced back in May.

Not surprisingly, I've seen people smoking Peter Jackson's, John Players and Canadian Classics a lot more since the tax was imposed.

Not everyone is upset with it!

Oh, and as someone already said, I bet you less than half of all liquor stores actually lower their prices back to pre-tax levels.

With a liquor store on every corner, the ones that don't won't have much business. People are very particular if they think they are overpaying for liqour!

Liquor Depot is the worst chain of liquor stores. They're always the most expensive. I loosely boycott them. That is, if I knopw there's another liquor store in the vicinity, I'll go there instead of LD. Buncha ball-washing bastids. (10 points to whoever gets that reference)
