Default Punks! Urchins! Trolls!

I'm pretty peeved at this moment!

Anybody else notice an increase in the amount of Punks, Trolls & Urchins in their neighbourhood recently?

I JUST finished weeding my front flower beds & then had a seat in my back yard to take a well deserved "beer break", when I heard some weird crunching noises and banging coming from my back alley.

I got up and looked over my fence and saw 3 young guys (20-25ish) rooting through everbody's recycle bins, then I saw one particulary lanky scum-bag test the garage door of the person who lives directly across the alley from me! ... I was a bit shocked. Then he proceded to hike up into my neighbours yard, in between the fence and the garage.

I was pee'ed off now!... I yelled from my yard "Hey! .. ######! .. That's a Cops house (truth) and you better pray to God he's not home!" ... Punk replies ... "I've been in here many times! .. Relax!" .."I'm just looking for empties" ... to which I replied... "Get the F$%@!! out of this alley and don't come back!"

I was at my sisters house last weekend and I saw 2 natives carrying huge garbage bags walking down her alley and they were also trolling the blue bins. She said.. "I've never seen that before".

I'm not a snob or an elitist, but I'm pretty sure if these people keep finding "treasure" in my recyle bin, they will be back every week! I also know that the temptation to check garage doors, gates, back doors etc.. will increase rapidly! I am NOT about to start keeping my bin in my yard! ..(They will only hop the fence to check it, and maybe discover nobody is home, and then what?) ..It will stay in the alley and it will NEVER have any items that can be returned to a depot for a refund!

Moral of the story:

DO NOT PUT "RETURN FOR DEPOSIT" ITEMS IN YOUR BLUE BIN!

Suggestion:

If you are the type of person who does not take "return for deposit" items back to the depot yourself, Please, Please, find a scout troop, hockey, soccer, baseball team, or community effort of some kind, that will be more than happy to come and collect from you on a weekly basis.

PS:

I live in a South West community (circa 1960) that has been great for me and my Family, I will not tolerate this increase in potential harm to my Family or property. I will definitely be bringing this up at my Com. Assns. next meeting. I've worked very hard (blue collar) to provide the best environment that I can for my Family and if this persists, I will call the City of Calgary and tell them to come and get their "blue bin" because I no longer want to participate......and you can kepp my freakin' $8 per month fee!!!

RANT OFF!

Great rant. Sounds like that letter to the editor chick was right! OMG!

What does this mean? "I've worked very hard (blue color) to provide the best environment that I can for my Family" - Do you mean that you work until you are blue in the face? Were you choking while you wrote that? Are you Aquaman?

The other morning when my wife left for work there was a homeless guy with a shopping cart going through the blue bins in our alley. We live in Mckenzie Town.

If you spent a week in Vancouver your head would explode.

There was a bum in my neighbourhood today sorting through all the bins too. If this is what's in store...Yikes. I live in the far NW, nowhere near where the bums hangout.

There was a segment on the news maybe a month ago saying that the city might look at lowering the monthly fee because they were making a whack of cash taking back all the refundable containers.

Maybe the bottle-pickers watch Darryl Janz and picked up on this?

I don't mind so much the fact that they are going through the bins as long as they are not making/leaving a mess or causing trouble.

Unfortunately you probably get a bit of that with half of them.

But it's good advice not to put anything of value in those containers. If you do that, they will leave you alone after a while. No one whether you're a million dollar sales person or a homeless person spends any time on projects that don't earn them anything. They'll move on to other targets, like the usual garbage cans at train stations and such.

...Spelling mistake led to this.

I meant to say I'm not a millionaire, just a "blue collar" worker.

Are you "trying" to be funny, or are you not aware of the term "blue color"...?..?..?.. either or, I'm not laughing or impressed.
Whoa, calm down dude, I wasn't the one going through your bin.

I have never once heard the term "blue color" used to reference what you just said.

Umm... what do you care?

Did they damage something? If your intent was on recycling containers, then who cares if someone comes around and takes them, making some money off of it. It sounds like you have the attitude of "if I don't get money from returning this stuff, then no one will". As long as they stick to taking bottles/cans, then I don't see the problem with it. If you are so concerned, take them yourself.

You sound concerned for your safety... but really, have they done anything yet or are you just basing this worry on assumptions that bums are dangerous? Your rant sounds like you are grasping at straws.

Do you mean blue-collar?

A blue-collar worker is a member of the working class who typically performs manual labor and earns an hourly wage. Blue-collar workers are distinguished from those in the service sector and from white-collar workers, whose jobs are not considered manual labor.

?

When the blue bin program started, it was in 1 quadrant of the city, the SW. In the first 10 days of a program that was being used sparsely, they collected over $3,500.00 dollars worth of "return for refund" containers.

Great Idea for the City of Calgary to advertise this to the BUMS!

Ah! Now it makes a little more sense!

Don't worry, I'm on your side, I'm blue-color too.

I'd say the "test the garage door of the person directly across the alley from me" part would be plenty to be concerned about.

Thank you... I couldn't make it through most of that mangled post. However, I'm sure they've been testing doors long before the blue boxes came around.
