This is how a lot of ravers die. They take ecstasy, dance, and then drink too much water.

A lot?
I'd imagine a much higher percentage die from dehydration than excess hydration.

I won't define "a lot", but it does happen frequently.
You would think that dehydration was the main fear, but that is why they drink so much. The fear of dehydration leads to the excess hydration.

I seen a war movie a few months ago, where one the POW camps torture methods was making them drink lots of water.

On first read I thought FA had posted that alot of RAVENS die that way. I was waiting to hear some obscure characteristic of ravens that differentiated them from other birds....then I got to the ecstacy part and went back to the beginning to realize my idiocy.
Still, ravens dying in mass from over-hydration is making me laugh now. What a moron I am.
Anyhow, as someone who was in a fraternity in college, there are a few that give the whole system a bad name. I chose wisely and we had no hazing. That's not to say it was easy to make it through and become an active member, but there was nothing illegal going on and nothing abusive.
We once visited the University of Colorado chapter of our fraternity for a weekend getaway. We found out what hazing was that weekend. The horror! They had their charter pulled by the national fraternity because of what they did to us (and other things). Morons.

Geez you guys make it sound like ravers are dropping like flies at parties...
I can't remember the last time I've heard about a raver dying from dehydration, excess hydration or ODing in Calgary (or Canada for that matter).
It's pretty rare.
And actually, to drink too much water you have to drink a crazy amount of fluid. Most people would throw up before they changed the sodium levels in their blood stream enough. I think the reason it happens with ravers is that the chemicals they take somehow multiply the effect, changes the solubility level in their blood stream to a certain extent.

No it doesn't, because smart, educated, school kids are not doing ectasy or drinking too much water on a regular basis....

Heres the thing. If you drink too much water anyways, you enter a euphoric state, similar to getting high. I imagine when the kid reached this stage, he just didn't even feel the stress on his body anymore, which probably contributed to his death.
Hazing is barbaric anyways, so I'm not surprised it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.
