Default Severe thunderstrom watch for calgary

Just wondering if anyone can pull a map to see what direction it's coming from? We're bbq'ing and I'm thinking maybe we should get our steaks going earlier than later!!??

Looking at the radar they are coming in from the SW. The small one will hit the SW corner of the city, and the big one looks like it will swing east of us and hit Strathmore.

The Warning areas are NW of Calgary, Airdrie and area - Grand Cache and area.

This is more correct than what I said. While there is more severe weather NW of the city, it's coming from the SW and should be hitting any time.

Looking at the radar projections, there is one thunderstorm cell SW of Springbank right now. It should be arriving in the city limits within an hour. Looks like it's tracking pretty much towards the south end of the airport. Doesn't look too severe at this time.

I just looked west south west of here (springbankish) and I must say that is an ominous cloud formation. I don't see the top of it or what potential it has, it is just huge though. I could not say if there is funnel cloud potential as I cannot see the top of it from here. My house is completely shaded by this thing.

Best guess is that you'll see some rain / possible lightning / possible hail in that area of town from about 5:20 to 6:10 from this one cell.

Looks like after that it should be dry for at least an hour.*

Should be.

There are some large ones west of Olds right now and they are headed to the South/Southeast.

Calgary may get hit by these but it probably won't be for about 4 hours from now.

Haven't seen anything yet, but it's windy out. The storm watch is still on as of 5pm. I'm fighting the urge to bbq until guests arrive, hopefully that doesn't happen at the same time as the falling golf balls are due.

I think it'll die off, no real threats other then a couple small cells up in Olds and down past High River.

I know! I was totally ready to consume alcohol on the patio while it pours rain and hail around me! I'm deeply disappointed to have to be doing this in the sun.

I have no comment on the weather, but I know that if Nystrom and Sjostrom see any significant ice time on the same line, I'm going to start calling them "Thunderstrom".
