Default Gamers Agree To Sell Souls

http://www.techdirt.com/articles/201...01419039.shtml

To prove a point about how few people actually read the "terms and conditions" when making a purchase online, British game retailer GameStation decided to play an April fools joke on its customers, tricking many of them into agreeing to hand over the rights to their soul. GameStation's current terms require online purchasers of its products to agree to the following:
By placing an order via this Web site on the first day of the fourth month of the year 2010 Anno Domini, you agree to grant Us a non transferable option to claim, for now and for ever more, your immortal soul. Should We wish to exercise this option, you agree to surrender your immortal soul, and any claim you may have on it, within 5 (five) working days of receiving written notification from gamesation.co.uk or one of its duly authorised minions.

I don't blame people for not reading them. If you're signing loans, mortgages, employment contracts, car purchases/leases or something like that you should read every word. However, with something as frivalous as this, you don't have a choice. Either accept or you don't get to play the game you want. It's the same with online T&Cs

Another interesting way of exposing how little click wrap people read is to look at the average time that it takes from the moment the click wrap opens to the point when the user selects OK. I can't rememeber the exact numbers, but they compared the average words per minute of a typical reader to what it would take to read the click wrap in the time it was open. The result was that people would have to be faster at reading than Johnny 5 to have actually read it.
