Charged short when buying something: How many of you actually bring it up?
Be honest here. You are buying something - whether its a taco, bike, movie, whatever. You werent charged enough, 10 cents, $10, $20, whatever. Do you bring it up with the cashier? Or are you the type who gets a little giddy inside and not say a word? Is it being dishonest if you dont bring it up?
Happened to me this morning, bought a movie ($30) only charged $20, didnt say anything about it.
Another time, few years back I was exiting the mall and this dude walking ahead of me drops a $20 bill when reaching into his pant pocket. As I get close to the bill, I picked it up off the floor and put it in my pocket and scoot off to my car.
I honestly don't. I've had it happen a few times, and I just have something inside me that won't let me walk away, knowing that the cashier will get in trouble, or half to pay out of their pocket or whatever.

I have done both. One time I was at the Kansas City Chiefs store in KC. In my head I had about $250 worth of stuff. I was talking to the cashier while he added everything up and told me it would be $109. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. It was like the Ikea commercial. "Start the Car!".

A bartender at the Palomino tried to give me back $25 in change instead of $5 during Stampede...I told HIM about it. That's right a dude. I gained nothing, but looked like a champ to my ol' lady though.
I figure Karma will save my ass again one of these days if I continue trying to live the golden rule.
My girlfriend got home to discovered that her salmon filet was charged at 3 cents. She and the cashier never noticed in when she was at the till.
The best 3 cent salmon I ever had =)
Cashier at safeway a few weeks ago rang in my portobello mushrooms as white mushrooms, and I ended up paying about $1.40 for 12 of them. I never said anything.
Ragged looking guy by the Stampede train station was begging for change because he had $1.80 and was 70 cents short for a transit fare. No doubt he was going to spend the money on crack or liquor instead. I sold him an expired transit ticket for his $1.80 and put it in my six year old sister's piggy bank.
Maybe these should go in the confessions thread.

For me it's all about the situation:
- any store where I am given the wrong change; I always bring it up as I know the cashier is likely on the hook for it.
- small store where the item is punched into the cash wrong; I bring it up.
- big store like Wal-Mart where there is a pricing error in my favour- I do my impression of that lady in the Ikea commercial.

If its a big corporation, like Best Buy or McDonalds, I don't say anything and am just happy that I got a better deal.
If its a small, local business, I'll always say something.
What if it's a big Co-operative like Calgary Co-op, a government run crown corp?
I have little patience with people with this type of attitude. Business is business, fair is fair, big or small. If you think it's morally wrong to walk away from the small retailer then it should be wrong to walk away from the world's biggest retailer and all sizes in between. No single raindrop thinks its to blame for the flood.

One of the best commercials in recent history. Always makes me laugh!
I would always say something. Its the same thing with taking something on the pretense that you're going to replace it later...you might as well just call yourself a theif and take as much as you want.
