remove avatars/signatures for high load times

i noticed when browsing hfboards during the draft that they do a neat thing and turn avatars/signatures off when they anticipate high load. they're doing it again with July 1 tomorrow, and it seems to help speed up the site quite a bit. avatars and signatures then get turned back on when the server load levels out

is that something CP would be able to do when the server load peaks, like today? might help the "page unavailable" error when everyone freaks about the next big signing or drama event

I've got it setup so avatars and sigs are stored on different servers than our own, so having them doesn't increase the load on the server at all. I do turn off the display of the people browsing the threads and that helps.

Basically there's just too many people for our server and bandwidth during those times.

ah k, that makes sense. i do have to say how much better this site is during the peak times now than it was a few years ago, great work

Yeah, teamchachi has done a LOT of tweaking and massaging over the past few years to squeeze out the best possible performance from our hardware.
