Default Canada Post Super Mailbox question

No more home mail delivery for me.

I'm moving to an area the has super mailboxes. I've always lived in an area that had home mail delivery.

My question is:

If someone is sending a letter to me do they need to know my super mailbox number?... or do they still send it to my house address and the postman will know which mail box to put the mail into?

How do I find out which super mailbox is the one that my mail will be delivered to? In the area that I am moving there are a few within walking distance of my new house.

I know these are probably dumb questions but I've never had to get my mail from a super mailbox before.

It gets addressed to your house address.

If this is an existing home, the current tenant will likely just give you their key. If it is a brand new subdivision, you will have to go to the postal distribution centre to get your key. Your builder may be able to tell you where to go.

One downside to super mail boxes is that ExpressPost items and packages will not get delivered to your house. You will get the delivery notification card and have to go to the outlet to get your package. So add +2 days onto whatever you are used to for Express service.

The person sending you mail just needs to know your house address, and the mail carrier will place the letter in the appropriate mailbox.

When we moved into my place, we just asked the realtor which one was our mailbox, and they told us. I am sure a call to Canada Post would yield an answer as well. Just give them an address, and they can probably tell you which box you're in.

parcels get put into the large boxes at the bottom (if they fit), with instructions and a key to retrieve it left in your box.

and if you are a person visiting a community with supermailboxes, don't be the ######bag who parks right in front of it.

Generally, the box will be on your way home if there are a couple close to you. For example I live in a cul-de-sac that splits into 3 smaller cul-de-sacs. While there are two boxes, on is on a branch road that I would never drive down.

At first I was choked about not having home delivery, but now I like it. There is a little more security with your mail, and the place for small to medium parcels is a lot better than them leaving it on your doorstep all day, or having to make an extra trip to the local postal outlet.

When I used to do parcel delivery, we still delivered express post stuff to the door. We only ever left cards when there's no one there.
