Anyone finished their garage latley? Just wondering what a good estimate would be to drywall, tape, mud, and paint a garage would be? it is 24x22. Not sure if I will insulate myself first or get someone else to do it.
Thanks

Not sure I would want to fork out the money to finish a garage, those wall get trashed after a while. Insulating and drywalling, sure. Mudding? Not sure I'd bother. Good project to try out yourself anyways, it's only a garage at the end of the day.

Agreed 100%. I have insulated mine, and have the vapour barrier up. Drywall is going on in stages, but I don't plan on mudding or painting. One of the reasons- it's good to always know where the studs areas you are more likely to want to hang stuff up in the garage.

I agree on the painting part, but someone else in the house hold thinks the garage is ugly and sadly I dont wear the pants in the house.
I could do the drywall and insulating, but I really want to stay away from the taping and mudding.

Garages weren't meant to be pretty, just functional. Honestly, you will spend a ton of money on something that is just going to get wrecked. Try the practical approach. Other than that, try a happy medium. Tape the seems and leave it at that. Like Ken said, you are going to hang a lot of heavy stuff off those studs, much easier to hit them when you know where they are.

What about putting up a compressed plywood, maybe 5/8ths thick? You could stain it or paint it, and it would look decent. Plus, you'll always know where the studs are, and can hang things directly on hooks in the plywood. You can install that yourself without mudding/taping.

That has always scared me a little. With drywall you are adding a certain amount of fire proofing, but hanging plywood or OSB you are now adding a bunch of fuel for a fire to consume.
One option would be to insulate it and drywall it, then stall when you get the quotes for mudding and she sees that it will cost as much as two trips for the two of you to Vegas in the winter.

100% agree, thats why I have been holding off for 4 years, but she is adamant about it for some strange reason, and I told her that I am not doing it (ha). One thing about me is that our garage is not the typical guys garage, dont have a bunch of tools or really anything in there but cars.
