Default For those Familiar with iTunes

Well, my internal harddrive is running out of space, and the best way for me to clear up space would be deleting my music. The problem here is with multiple iPods, would it be possible for iTunes to read iPod 1 as the "library" so i can sync from one Ipod to another?

(one iPod is the master iPod, the classic, while the other will be a Nano)

or Am i out of luck on this venture?

basically i want to sync selected songs from my iPod classic to my future iPod nano.

Will this be possible without having the songs on the internal HD at all times?

You want to have your library be on the classic, hooked to your computer as though it is an external hard drive ( and not an ipod), and then at the same time connect another ipod to the computer when you want to sync it?

I am sure it is possible, just move your itunes folder to you ipod as though you are loading non music files onto it. Then change your itunes preferences to reflect the new path of the library.

Keep in mind that ipods are notorious for having slow data transfer rates, and being very unstable in terms of reliable data storage.

A small external HDD would do the same thing, albiet faster and more reliably. An external enclosure, like this one for $40 from Memory Express. Put in a 500 Gig HDD, for $56, or 1TB for $86 . Alternately if you have an old HDD kicking around somewhere, you could just buy the enclosure and put the old drive into it.

If the idea of putting a HDD into an enclosure bothers you, which it really shouldn't because it is very simple, you could get a external drive as a single unit. This one from best buy is $99 for 250 gig.

I have to agree with Rathji's last point. It may cost a bit, but buying an external hard drive would be my recommendation. Then again, I'm an organization freak and it's very important that all my content be in itunes at the ready to be deployed to a device. I'm odd that way.

I wouldn't recommend using the iPod Classic in disk mode to act as a repository for your library. Leaving it plugged in for long durations other than to charge is going to be very hard on the battery and will shorten its life span. Additionally, the 1.8" drives used in the Classic are not designed for continual data access like a regular hard drive - they want to spin up, read a track or two, and spin down.

That said, I'm assuming you are a laptop user, because most desktop users don't have issues with space for music these days. I'd seriously consider just upgrading your laptop's hard drive. For $119, you can get a 7200rpm 500 gig hard drive...look here: http://www.memoryexpress.com/Product...23360(ME).aspx
