Default Fan 960: Fox Sports Radio

I'm not sure if anyone cares but is anyone enjoying Fox Sports Radio? I was disappointed with the station's decision to switch from ESPN Radio. I know they did it for financial reasons but I find that none of the shows I listen to are particularly interesting or have compelling personalities. And I've given it a couple months before giving up on it.

I've now resorted to changing the dial to non-sports stations if local broadcasting isn't on. Not that it makes much difference...

Never listened to ESPN radio, and never listen to FOX radio. I care about the local content.

I used to listen to ESPN early morning shows, Mike and Mike etc. when I had to work really early. But I haven't had to do that in awhile so I didn't even know they made the switch. Doesn't matter to me, its just bunch of Americans talking about the BIG teams (Yankees, Red Sox, Lakers, etc) they never talked about Raptors, Jays etc so no loss for me.

ESPN had a couple of stinkers, but on they whole they were very good and very professional. The Fox shows have been a disappointment across the board. So much yelling, so much local (LA) homerism. Especially Petros and Money. I don't know which one is always, but I can't stand him.

Mike and Mike are NY homers.

Both are garbage IMO, I listen to the Fan for local sports, not some rehashed garbage I can get online.

I hate Fox, especially their late night programming - Late Night with Jason Smith was awesome.

On weekends Fox just replays their interviews from the week - and it's the SAME SHOW both nights. Brutal.

I have XM Radio, so it doesn't really matter - if I really want ESPN broadcasting, I got it. It is the local content I listen to the most - Flames & Hitmen broadcasts, the Big Show, Rob Kerr, Richards etc. I will even listen to the occasional Jays game.

It is really too bad that our market place is not large enough for a decent evening crew from Calgary.

You hit the nail on the head right there. I wish there was something from 6-9 or 7-10.

As I said in the earlier thread about the switch Fox Sports Radio sucks, but the worse part for the FAN 960 is the one good show (Steve Czaban) is on during Rome so they don't even get that.

Instead we are stuck with terrible guys like Petros and Money and JT the Brick, none of which should be on any radio let alone national syndicated shows.

One show from both networks that is worth listening to IMO...and that is Tirico and Van Pelt. Other than that, I'm listening to music.

They recently replaced our local (KC) programming with the Dan Patrick show. While I love Dan as a Sportscenter host, his radio show is about as exciting and informative as a trip to oilfans.com.

Does anyone actually listen to the radio when they aren't in their car other than Flames games? I'll bet it's a very small audience. They should let students in training for careers in the industry have shows. They could talk local sports. Sure they wouldn't get much of an audience but I doubt they have much of one to begin with.

Foxsports is pretty brutal, I was listening to a late night program last thursday and it was talking about the potential matchups of that evening. So I wasn't even getting analysis from the games of that night, but previews....brutal.

And forgive me for being blunt, but there just isn't enough big time sports in calgary to warrant any more coverage, especially once the flames are done. ESPN does a great job of covering the NBA, the NFL, and MLB which is great, I don't need (or think it warrants) a local show to talk about sports we don't even have in this city and i think they cover the vipers and stamps enough being 6-9 with Mike and 1-6 with big show/sportsline.

Don't like Fox Sports at all. The only show i liked from ESPN radio was All night with Jason Smith. I miss listening to him late at night when i'm about to go to sleep. Regardless, ESPN radio is a lot better than Fox and it sucks that the Fan switched over. To be quite honest, after the Flames are finished, the Fan is pretty boring to listen to. I still can't believe they played the Canucks broadcast when the Hawks were playing them. It also sucks that since the Fan 960 are affiliated with the Fan 590 in Toronto, they feel the need to play Blue Jays games and make us listen to that idiot Bob Mcowen. Don't know if they know this but not everybody in Canada are Blue Jays fans, especially here in the West.

I love the Fan 960 and have been listening to them for a long time. Their Flames coverage is outstanding and Peter Maher is the best out there. I love listening to the afternoon guys like Boomer, Pat, Robbie and Lafitt.

Bottom line is that i hope they bring back ESPN radio, because these fox guys are just annoying to listen to.

And yet Team1040 in Vancouver still runs ESPNradio at night.
That just chaps my ass.

So, Fan960 in the Flames off-season is boring you don't listen to it, Fox blows, but it annoys you that they play Jays games and hockey playoff games?

I criticized the Team in Edmonton when they stopped broadcasting baseball games (the MLB type - I understood when they bailed on the Cracker-Cats). I've never been able to figure out why 630 ched (Oilers and NHL rights holder) doesn't air playoff games.

I hated Jason Smith.

But I do miss the Valvano show on weekends when I'm actually up that late.

-- BTW, can't the Fan960 run an overnight call-in show with interviews? I'm sure people would call in

Hehe I wasn't the biggest fan of Valvano, but I like his show over the Fox crap.

The Fan should have a late-night call in show, and Jiri can host it - he can figure out ways to make other team's names into naughty words like he did with the Ducks....
